Your Bangernomics successes

18 yr old passat. Just spent two days fixing failed mot stuff, thank god for vag comm. Well chuffed the old banger will do me another year - and hopefully more. Next up the timing belt, something to keep me occupied all day, can't believe it's four years again. Keep looking at a new rs6/s6 but I love bangers and being contrarian!!Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0

Forgot to update this a couple of weeks ago..... insurance time on the Fusion saw another bonus - fully comp with protected NCB came in at £198, so at least £50 if not closer £100 lower than was expected....
I'm beginning to really like this car. I've had 8.5 months with it, and considering it was a cold-ish winter I've got 60.3 overall mpg to date, which is increasing as it gets warmer again. No advisories on the MoT so hopefully come next april it'll go through with next to nothing..gotta love it......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

My '02 focus passed it's MOT with flying colours [whatever that means]. At kwik fit, so i'll be going there again. The only downside to owning this car is finding it in the car park. [it's silver]0

So my time with the Demio is at an imminent end, unfortunately. Very much out of choice rather than necessity. Car still drives great, will probably pass the MOT and is good for a few years at least, but I've just decided at nearly 28, that I need something a bit.... nicer. So I've gone for Luxo-bangeronomics. I'm going to buy a 3-series, 06 reg, 60k miles for £3000. It's definitely top money bangernomics, but it's still bangernomics (imo
) as I will probably still be driving it in 10 years time
As for some rough Bangernomics calculations on the Mazda Demio's performance.
Paid £200 for it.
Done 9000 miles on it. Not serviced other than oil change it as was done before purchase.
£10 spent on repairing an indicator.
Was written off as Cat-N (for said smashed indicator), insurance paid £580 for it.
Bought back the salvage for £16.
Now for sale on Gumtree, had an offer of £300 already.
If it sells for £300, then the car will have cost me:
£200 + £10 - £564 - £300
= -£654 for 9000 miles of hassle free motoring.
Going to take some doing to beat that.0 -
2002 - Bought a Daihatsu Charade GTTi from the garage where I worked for £50. it was a trade in with 80K on the clock. Great condition, full years MOT. Drove it for 2 years as a 'spare' and a fun weekend car. Sold it after 2 years with 90K on the clock for £1100 IIRC? Cost of ownership, no servicing, just the 2 x MOT's = - £975?'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -

That's incredible. Bangernomics truly at its finest.
They're worth a few pence now those Charade GTTi's.0 -

That's not Bangernomics, you Splitter
Having a banger written-off s a cracking way to recoup/profit from it, the fact you bought it back is a rarity these days, nice one......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

If I keep it for a few years, it might be.True it's not quite the bangernomics i'm used to, but honestly, I can't keep driving that Mazda. I'm embarrassed to be seen dead in it tbh
