yep unemployment can suck but life isnt a bed of roses necessarily if you are at work. There are usually worries and problems and people dont always get on.

My previous job really sucked the life out of me, not the job itself more the people, politics and back stabbing, I don't know what's worse, going through that day in day out or being on the dole.

Oh you don't? Let me spell it out to you. Would your 19 year old daughter have some lame £2.60 an hour job, which lets face it can't be a real job can't it that low a 'salary' (must be an apprentice) if she had 20 years experience working in accounts managing £2million a month in payments? Hmmm, probably not.

Have a good night now, wont you!

Nothing wrong with doing an apprenticeship, ok the money isn't great....YET but it is an investment in the future. I did an apprenticeship, many years ago, took home £12:50 a week, most of my mates went labouring and were getting 3X as much. Different story now though, recently made redundant, mid 50s, walked straight into another job and know if I phone one particularly good local agency I will have 3 or 4 interviews set up by the end of the week. So my, or rather my Dad's, vision has helped me and hopefully Silky's daughter will progress thanks to his support.

They were suggesting we all do the same when I have 20 years accounts experience, that's all.

Ok fair enough must have taken it out of context.

I think it might be you taking it out of context now, they provided a list of a possible way to get a job in a hospital. That led to a £2.60 apprentice opportunity for their daughter, obviously that option may not be suitable for everyone, however a hospital offers a wide range of jobs from the obvious nursing, care and surgeons, to administrators, maintenance, catering, they probably even have an accounts department and if offering to volunteer in some capacity opens a door to another, more suitable one then it is an avenue I would consider if needs be.

And to get a job in the NHS a REAL job you have to have NHS expereince as I have applied for a number of jobs with no luck at all. They are bitter about a family member and take it out on the likes of me who have never done anything to them!!

Offer me work? They can't offer me work; an employer has to (via the agency). Most agencies I have registered now say they can't help me as I have been out of work too long.

They won’t try to convince employers to interview me as they are scared of losing commission if they lose them as a client so they don't say anything when the employer says I have a great CV but they won’t interview me due to me being out of work.
  • This sounds like a silly excuse! theres plenty of peple who have career breaks they dont deserve to be written off like this. What about doing some voluntary work in your chosen field so that you are seen to be still working and upto date?
