sitting at home doing nothing???

Following on from Falko's thread about people saying "there are jobs out there". He stated he is totally peed off with hearing these comments time and again....yeah, me to by the way!

Well, here's another one Im totally peed off with: If you are unemployed, you must be "sitting-at-home-doing-nothing"??

Why do so many assume this to be the case?

It is possible to be active, mentally and physically in between looking for work!! Good gawd, there is loads off stuff people are doing, we dont all sit around watching daytime telly.......

So, any idea why a few people always assume that the unemployed are doing nothing?

Hear hear! Especially as if you're serious about finding work, job searching can take up most of your days. Application forms are time-consuming and CVs and covers need to be tweaked for every app.

I do try to be disciplined about timetabling my days though as I do go into the doldrums rapidly when not working so it would be easy to sink into the tv-all-day trap, if I didn't keep myself busy deliberately.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

What do you do all day?

It's probably because it's hard to imagine how you fill your time when you aren't working. It can also be used in a 'nothing important/self supporting/fullfilling' sense I think as opposed to just not doing anything in general.

And of course, there are many who do do nothing (well, apart from watch tv etc)

Not working is boring as hell,so I perfectly understand how people can assume such a thing!
If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?
  • Yeah, I look after my 1 & 3 year old girls while the missus is at work - trust me, I can't wait to get back into a job, as much as I love the little dears :)

It's not necessarily about being lazy though (although in many cases can be construed as such)...but seriously, what are you doing day in day out that leads to a fullfilling life? What is it you are truely enjoying? What keeps you 'busy'??

I think you'll find there are very few who can watch tv while working.

Daytime tv is watched by stay at home parents and the rest of the unemployed, and possibly a few night/shift workers. But,naturally, largely the 'unemployed'

Not working can be boring for some, but you are only limited by your imagination!

Well, I care for my gran, do voluntary work, do craft work which I hope to earn a small income from when I become a student. I walk loads, take photo's, visit my family, read books and educate myself..etc..

Work is something you do..its not who you are, though some wouldn't be able to handle that.
