Not working can be boring for some, but you are only limited by your imagination!
Well, I care for my gran, do voluntary work, do craft work which I hope to earn a small income from when I become a student. I walk loads, take photo's, visit my family, read books and educate myself..etc..
Work is something you do..its not who you are, though some wouldn't be able to handle that.
But work is also an important part of life -for income and other reasons.
So you do some voluntary work,it's still work.
The rest,I can't imagine that taking up so much time (except maybe reading which I could do all day if I didn't have my son to disturb me!!).To me,the rest just sounds dull (apart from education, but then it depends whether it's actual education)If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

Really?? Caring for an 88year old woman with alzheimers is dull and couldn't possibly take up much time? Priceless...0 -
What do you do all day?
Not working is boring as hell,so I perfectly understand how people can assume such a thing!
Actually - I had a period of unemployment for 14 weeks and loved every second of it. A structured day with an allotment trip and good cooking, it soon fills the time up. You may find it boring as hell but I thoroughly enjoyed it - apart from the monotonous job application filling in.
I worked from home for years and never used to put the TV on - the only daytime TV I've watched in 2 decades is when I've been off sick - and it's enough to send you back to work early. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Oh,I defianately think in the short term it can be nice, say after you've been working and have a break from work for a while. But longer and I honestly can't imagine it.I had to stop working for my autistic son who was out of school for a year and started again in october to only be in 2 hours a day and spending so much time at home is mind numbingly boring for me!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

Yeah, for you. Not for everyone. I'd happily never work again if possible - but I have 20 years before I can draw a pension - probably 25 if the pension age gets later and later.
Once we are mortgage free [5 more years] I'll be able to stop work and then the fun begins. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

I do try to be disciplined about timetabling my days though as I do go into the doldrums rapidly when not working so it would be easy to sink into the tv-all-day trap, if I didn't keep myself busy deliberately.
I hear this repeated everywhere, I can do a job search in 10 mins, unless I am not looking in the right places, I don't have to worry about application forms as there is rarely anything to apply for, but yet I sit staring at the computer for hours on end every day just hoping something/anything I could apply for would appear but it never does.
I'm actually finding it really difficult to get my days in now, at the start it was ok but the novelty has worn of now, I live in the stick so no where really to go, nothing to do. I now have to look after my baby daughter full time since our childcare stopped so I suppose that keeps me busy but its mentally exhausting, I'd rather working0 -

I know what you mean. There are just no jobs to apply for. In my case, I have been unemployed for a long time, so my job search is a limited one as being long term unemployed and over 45years old, there is virtually no jobs for me to apply for really. All I did in the past were driving jobs and I live in an unemployment blackspot!0 -
It's not necessarily about being lazy though (although in many cases can be construed as such)...but seriously, what are you doing day in day out that leads to a fullfilling life? What is it you are truely enjoying? What keeps you 'busy'??
I know if you have a full time job you will not have time at all to do half of what I do!
Oh yes and as for what am I enjoying.........erm nothing as its no fun at all if you didn't know being out of work and not having a life anymore.0 -
