GBP 1200 Loan Required Urgently Today - (RETIRED THOUGH!!)

Seriously, they can't be expecting £1200 in cash surely? Not if it's a reputable firm? Don't even think about loan as anyone prepared to give you money on a Saturday (and bank transfers aren't always immediate so you may not get the money until Monday anyway) will charge a ridiculous rate of interest. It's really not worth paying an extra £500 or so. When the subject of money comes up, just say 'the company said a cheque/credit card was fine'. The workman will have to accept it.0

Shame on you all! This is clearly a vulnerable elderly person asking a perfectly reasonable question as their boiler has packed in during this cold weather and all you can do is pick on them!0

What makes them vulnerable then - they seem to have all their marbles about them? They also have the boiler already installed so it's not as though they will be cold without it is it?0

It is completely unreasonable for the tradesman to ask for cash when you thought that they would take a credit card payment. What are they going to do, take it all out again, rather than wait until you can go and get the cash after the weekend.
You certainly don't want to be getting involved in high interest, short term loans. It sounds like a simple misunderstanding.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0

Give tradesman a cheque or wait until you have money. He seems to want it...yeah sure...they all seem to want it. If you don't have the money then send him away and come back when you do have the money. Don't borrow money for it. Payday loans are for going to the pub on a Saturday night with your mates but you have no money as that was all spent on the bills and last months payday loan. They aren't for boilers.:footie: Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
