Thanks for that MATH. Do you cover it once you're defrosting?

Yup! Forgot to say to cover once you turn the power down. Not before tho else it all bubbles over.

I'm assuming that you could probably make a nice rice pud in the slow cooker as well

Yes, you can, but it's always nice to have alternatives available :)

I always make mine in the slow cooker and it comes out delish! I usually throw in some chopped dried apricots, raisins or whatever else is to hand to vary it a bit.

    That's OK :)

Er, yes, you very definitley can...

From Crockpot Cooking by Mary Norwak...

    3oz 75g pudding rice

    2oz 50g sugar

    1.5 pints 750ml milk

    1oz 25g butter

    pinch of nutmeg

Grease the crockpot with a little butter and add all the ingredients except the nutmeg and stir well.

Cut the butter into small knobs or flakes and sprinkle them over the top and then sprinkle nutmeg over this.

Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

You can make it creamier by using some evapourated milk, and cook it faster if you boil the milk before putting in the cooker.

  • this may be a daft queastion but can you freeze rice pudding? I bought some pudding rice today - been meaning to for ages but I always forget at the supermarket - and thought it might be a good idea to make a load in the slow cooker and freeze it in portions.

Someone said somewhere that it turns all mushy and grainy, though it still tasted the same.

What you could try, is first freezing it, and then when defrosted you could blitz it with blender to make ground rice...?

I don't buy ground rice any more - I just blitz extra helpings of rice pud when I want a change :)
