How do I deal with this awkward tenant?

I sank a small whiskey in solemn commemoration to a guy that had paid me nearly as much in rent over the last 17 years as I paid for the freehold of the whole property in 1995.
I'd be a poor human being if I gloated over someone's death.
Not so poor now you can do it up and rent it out at proper rates though, eh?0 -

We can only hope that he is in a better place or at rest.
On a serious note I hope the EHO and the family leave it at that.Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.
Actively hunting down the person who invented the imaginary tenure, "share freehold"; if you can show me one I will produce my daughter's unicorn0 -

With ASTs, how many elderly people will have been booted out? Security of tenure can be a pain, but where people are vulnerable, it's so useful. Here the landlord did the right thing, and could have got access via a court action (or involving social services.) I wonder what will happen when we are older and confused and scared? I hope landlords are as reasonable as this one tried to be.0

No problem there, I spoke to the EHO he's happy enough although he wants me to let him inspect before I put anyone else in there, that's not a problem.
It did not come to an improvement notice in the end, it was all quite informal (so long as I agreed to the repairs).0
