I do not think it unreasonable to ask for dry cleaning costs to be met. Did you specify your expectations in your complaint, or just whinge?

  • If you complained by email I am not sure all of tescos customer service is in the UK so it may be that you were not specific enough about your expectations. I had a similar poor responce to a complaint I made to Tesco so just replied to the email stating that there response was unaceptable and stating my clear expectations. They then responded and complied.

    Yes.
It is what is commonly known as "an accident".
    Inconvenient, Yes.
    Pain in the bum, Yes.
    Did every one survive, Yes.

I know we live in a blame culture nowadays but things can still happen just because Venus is out of whack with Saturn or you forget to wear your lucky undies.

I agree that some people seem to want to blame anything on anyone and get rich quick, but where things go wrong it is not necessarily just a case of getting compensation. I would report something like this just to potential accidents from happening. It should not be a matter of making money - merely being responsible.

I still don't agree with the op here.

This an accident with 2 very good arguments if you like for it being no more Tesco's fault than yours. Firstly you say it shouldn't have been removed from the bay then why did you then sit by it? (that is only something you've come out with, theres no legal reason for this. Their not dangerous unless someone pushes it over. You can't regulate the world to the extent to prevent anyone from pushing something over, you'd have to ban most things, shopping trollies (they could be dangerous!), coffee machines, clothes racks, most fixtures anywhere more or less everything if you wanted to)

Afterall with that being the case neither you or the staff must have been expecting it to fall over. You've not acknowledged you didn't see this coming either, so does that mean your equally to blame?
  • Did you complain while you were in the store and have the incident recorded in the accident book?
  • Tescos will still be responsible for the cafe if its in there store but yes they do give a catering contract to another company I think your right with Eurest.

This was my reasoning in reporting it, which is why I was dissapointed in their response. I didn't feel they took it seriously and didn't offer to cover a small cost that I had incurred. Certainly I have and had no interest in this as a money making oppurtunity. Just don't feel that their customer service is everything they would have you believe.

Although as I have stated in the post above I have no interest in making money out of this incident, I would take issue with a couple of your points above. We sat next to the clearing unit as it was busy , there was no space and my young daughter needed feeding, so out of neccesity I guess. Any business that has the public on its premises has a duty to do risk assesments to ascertain where problems could occur, this is why you normally see these trolleys in bays, as this stops things falling off the back onto people, so I guess at this point they have not done what they should have.
No you are right I have'nt acknowledged that I didn't see this coming. I didn't see it coming, I had no wish for my partner to be covered in coke, if I knew it was going to happen I wouldn't have sat there. However just because you can potentially see a risk doesn't mean there is a lack of fault, you get in your car each day and know there is a risk of injury or death, but this doesn't mean an insurance company won't pay damages. As I say I am not interested in an Injury Lawyers Are Us case just dissapointed with the level of customer service you can expect at your local Tesco.

You - "Excuse me Mr/Mrs/Ms Tesco Employee, can you move that rather full trolley away from us please"
Mr/Mrs/Ms Tesco Employee - "Sure, no problem"

I think you would be better taking this up with the store concerned. Your complaint is likely to be taken more seriously and more importantly acted upon. They should compensate you for the costs you incurred, I'm sure they have some sort of insuarance for this sort of thing anyway. A mate of mine was shopping in Sainsbury's and due to a poorly stacked shelf a few bottles of wine ended up on him/the floor. His jacket was ruined and without question they gave him money for a new one
