Even if the total price is considered, it's a risky thing for the seller to put such a big hike on the P&P as they could risk their stars.

I might think about messaging the seller and say that the item arrived safely, but the large difference in P&P price and stamp price was a bit of a shock. (Not for feedback extortion or a refund, but maybe to highlight to the buyer that they;ve been cheeky).

More likely though I would just leave 2/3 stars for P&P and leave feedback like
Item as described but P&P charges seem a bit excessive.
Thanx,i have sent him a message will leave feedback later, see if he comes back with anything, most likely the time for packaging and petrol :rotfl:
  • It might be risky yes but the point of asking how others breakdown their prices is another seller might have a higher BIN price and lower postage which might be more suited to OP's personal requirements.

More likely though I would just leave 2/3 stars for P&P

A small seller picking up a handful of 2s can lose their account, I'd doubt you'd neg for £1.50 but a 1 or 2 star is more harmful than a neg. Leaving less than 3 is unfair and if the seller is VAT registered that 1.50 over charge becomes 1.08 extra and that is assuming the jiffy bag cost just under 8pence. All this fuss over a quid or so someone agreed to pay?

Yes, but the OP put trust into the seller that they would quote a fair postage price.
It's the sellers responsibility to make sure what they're offering will get them the best stars.
No I wouldn't neg if the item still arrived & was as described, but the stars give you the opportunity to grade things that are good and not so good about the sale.

I do understand what your saying, like i said in my previous post i was happy to pay it simply because it was wooden so expected it to be way heavier than it was only to find out it wasnt at all,im not going to lose sleep over £1.50 but think he should charge the correct postage price instead of ripping people off.trust me if i had of known the weight before hand i wouldnt have paid it.after all this is MSE
  • No I wouldn't neg

But the 2 star rating is worse than a neg? OP received a hand made item that they wanted, presumably from a skilled craftsman, for £12.50 out of which eBay/Paypal and Royal Mail took a cut. When you think of all the things we waste money on risking someone's eBay account for a quid seems petty to me.

trust me if i had of known the weight before hand i wouldnt have paid it

So you don't think the item is worth £12.50 but is worth £11 and that small difference in profit for the seller would deter you from ordering something you want?

    Everyone has different oppinions.
I've explained why I wouldn't neg but give low P&P stars.
  • You haven't actually said why you wouldn't leave a neg, just under which circumstances.

My questions is why wouldn't you leave a visible comment, which allows other buyers with specific requirements such as the OP's, to make a more informed decision and lets the seller know specifically where and what the problem was, but you would leave an anonymous low score that tells neither buyers nor the seller anything but does put the seller one step closer to losing their eBay account and possibly their livelihood?

Surely as long as the price is quoted clearly on the auction there is no issue?
If you don't agree with that postage rate: buy someone else or ask the seller before bidding?

    Agreed.

    This is petty..
You were given a price and happy to pay it... if your really that annoyed by the fact that you received the intended goods at the intended price then at least send them a message, or better yet, just leave it.

Anything more than 50p extra on top of the price of posting annoys me.

Really? The packaging for the laptops I ship costs me £3. So you'd give me low stars if I charged £1 more than the price of posting even though I'd made a loss of £2, not including the cost of my time.

Wonderful. No wonder the star system is so unfair with people like you.

It was a wooden plaque very light and in a jiffy bag.how many stars would u give for postage? wasnt sure if i was just being petty,i mean i get packs of 4/5 jiffy bags from the £1 shop so i know they arnt expensive

How near is the post office? How long does it take to get there? How much does it cost to go there?

An amount for all of the above can be included in the postage costs as Ebay state.
