I think OP is talking about the scrolling banners at the top and bottom of the home page.
They aren't ads they are part of the page and links to other parts of the site so won't get blocked by ad blockers.
I dont have ANY scrolling banners on top or bottom, the nearest I get to any sort of banner, would be the MSE ticker on the right hand side of the screen.

Were MSE to place such scrolling advertisements on either top or bottom of their page, I wouldn't still be a member.

Well I have now got rid of most by...

    1. I uninstalled Google Chrome

    2. I installed Windows Explorer 9 and used the below method..

    Microsoft Internet Explorer
    1. Open Internet Options from either the Control Panel (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Internet Options), or from Internet Explorer (version 7: Tools -> Internet Options).

    2. Click on the Advanced tab.

    3. Scroll down to the Multimedia category.

    4. Remove the check from the Play animations in webpages option.

    5. Click the "OK" button.
I still think it can be a real pain for some though depending on which Web Sites one visits and how Internet Acsess is set.:D

Yes, and I always have. And by and large until fairly recently I have not been bothered hardly at all.

The problem seems to be the moving advertisements which can come as part of the Web Sites natural make up.

Perhaps Im tending to visit the wrong Web Sites.....

But have you ever been to a Web Site which has an advertisement down the side.....you move up and down the site reading and the moving advertisements follow the page up and down?

This seems to be a more recent phenonemon as Web Sites think of more and more ways to try and brain wash you with either information or advertisements.

The square block at the top under the 'Money Saving Expert' logo is constantly changing to....,.
"Water Saving Freebies"...."I cut car insurance"......New Top Isa"...etc.

Then lower down there is the moving bar with other perhaps links to offers.

I think that there are enough links on the home page anyway without that.

You are looking here are you not?

Very rare I see flashing ads - Firefox, adblock plus and no script.

I hate the moving adverts on websites (though have never noticed any on MSE). I suffer from vertigo and they can set off an attack if I'm not expecting a moving bit on a webpage. I use ad-blockers but sometimes they don't work.
