Hi all
Been watching for ages, feel that I must post about sky broadband.
I have been having trouble with my service for weeks, I have phoned technical servises and told they would contact me within 5 days, which they didnt do. I wrote to them , I emailled them i have shouted and screamed at the but still they offer a bad service.
I have been cut off 8 times today, my line is fine says BT, sky say "what are we supposed to do".
I want to cancel.....help what can I do?

Sorry to hear you have trouble, what exactly is the problem you have?
If it helps the freephone for Sky CS is 0800 051 2595.
I know it well as I was without service for 3 months!

Hi Penrhyn
My connection keeps dropping off! I have used wireless, ethernet, cryline, sob city.....I haver to reboot the router 8-9-10 times a day....basic crap.
And I still cannot get a good explanation as to why, I pay for max and am lucky to get 1MB.

Just been told Sky will not be offering me the £5 mth deal back up to £17.99
Oversubscribed it seems...

I have read on ADSLguide that there are issues with the firmware of the SKY issued router. Although the device is a standard Netgear WiFi router, it has SKY modified firmware loaded. Some users have replaced the SKY firmware with official Netgear firmware and have reported a remarkable improvement in service. This is however against the contract - you must use the SKY router as supplied.0

First note: This is done at your own risk!
Your best bet is to read through the threads on the ADSLGuide forum here. You can get an idea of the risk and decide whether it is worth it or not.
Briefly though...- download the latest firmware from the Netgear website here.
- logon to the router (type 192.168.0.1 into your browser address bar)
- backup the current firmware (you may need to put it back later)
- use the 'router upgrade' option to update the firmware.

the firware on the netgear site is older than the firmware on the sky router.
I had the same issue, it kept cutting out. I narrowed it down to the wireless being faulty on the router. You have to basically tell their support desk what is wrong, dont let them fob you off. They told me my connection dropped because I have the max line yet can only get up to 8mb. I told them to stop insulting my intelligence
After much persistance and their insistence on testing a few things we agreed my router was faulty and they replaced it.
It helps to tell them you have more than one PC and they are all having the same problem. Even if you only have one PC/notebook tell them you have more.0 -

Yes it is but it is netgear firmware for a netgear router. The Sky firmware may be newer but it has been 'amended' by Sky for their needs (cough: spyware??)
Having said that, as soon as they get round to unbundling my exchange, I will be switching from Pipex.0
