MSE News: 'I'm on benefits but I'm no scrounger'

Please, please don't let this person win. I am so angry with their last comment and hurt for you as well. They went too far, and all the person has done is go at you this afternoon. But what they just said is now here in black and white for all to see. They have shown themselves to be lower than low.
This isn't a board for debates any more, its a bashing thread and I hope that it gets locked by a moderator, or MSE Martin himself.
*hugs* to you x0 -
I think it's about time Admin stepped up and removed this whole thread!

If you don't want to discuss it, fine - but your husband is the one who brought it up, not us. We only want a proper understanding of the facts, that's all.
Exactly.
Your husband has claimed you live on a headline figure of £11k, and issued a challenge to live on the aforementioned amount.Someone on Twitter said they would happily give up work and stay in bed for £11,000. Go on, then. Try to maintain any kind of lifestyle.
Don't worry though - there's an endless supply of fluffy bunny posters like the one above who will pat and hug you while you continue to claim you're hard done by.
Let's close the thread because it didn't turn into 200 "aww, poor you, have a gold star and a cup of milk" posts.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

I truly do not see why the thread should be locked simply because people have found faults with the article...
Perhaps delete the offending post, but why should discussion be ended?Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”

It stopped being a discussion a while back and shouldn't be left open for more scrutiny!

The second reply in the thread was one questioning the amounts stated in the post. We're now thirty pages on.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”

Unbelievable that you want to censor people who are asking a totally reasonable question and getting evasiveness, anger and defensiveness in return! I didn't realise I lived in a country where we're not allowed to ask questions when things don't seem to make sense. My mistake for trying to get a real understanding of Ross's situation - apparently I am only allowed to read the article, not think about it or query it.
Ross said he wanted to quash the idea that benefits recipients receive £26k - he says he receives £11k. But he refused to confirm if this was a TOTAL amount, which it would need to be in order to compare to £26k! He also said it was harder to live on £11k than it was to live on a full-time wage. But he refused to confirm whether he had to pay housing and council tax out of the £11k.
His wife confirmed that the £11k is a total including HB and council tax benefit, so housing and council tax are paid out of the £11k. Why has it been like pulling teeth to get this confirmation? Why the secrecy? She says she won't discuss her financial situation on a public forum - but it was ok for her husband to write about their financial situation, in a fair bit of detail in relation to their outgoings, in a very public article??
We were all on your side, but we get concern and honest, reasonable questions thrown back in our faces.0 -

Many of those pages involving attack by at leat one poster and many of those posts being written by the same few people. There are those who have been able to raise points carefully and without writing anything likely to cause offence then there are those who just won't listen and have used some issues raised as a lever for attack.
It goes from being a careful, courteous debate with people listening carefully to one another and respecting views, to an all-out vendetta by a few. That's pretty pathetic, some people obviously have nothing better to entertain themselves with.
I really hope you haven't now appeared solely for a spot of entertainment for the evening....
Anyway, this thread is pretty pointless when it loses the point of discussing and debating. There's nothing left to say.0
