I took out car insurance 2 months ago and paid it in full with my debit card. I got a phone from them yesterday saying that I need to pay them an extra £75 now because my car is kept at two separate postcode areas - this is because I work at night and the underwriters now class one as a high risk postcode area. Are they allowed to do this?
You need to give us more information eg a) Which Insurer b) how did you buy the cover (Via internet or over phone c) Did you use a comparison site d) Did the quote ask for both addresses0 -
My insurer was Autonet and I got them from compare the market. I done it on line and by post as well and I spoke to them on the phone about it as well. I told them that my car was kept in a secure car park while I was working overnight and the car was parked outside my house during the day so they had all the right details when I took the policy out. Yes -on form it asked me where my car was kept overnight.0

Having trawled the market looking for insurance for my daughter who is about to turn 17 for a Mini One, I was receiving quotes in the order of £2000 TPFT once she has passed her test. It is usually cheaper as a provisional driver, they just whack it up as soon as you go out on your own. My son then told me that he had heard that a Multi Car Policy is great as you can add in cars at the same address and get huge discounts - especially if we put my wife and I on as named drivers.
Did that today. I have insured a Fiesta Titanium 1.6 diesel for (Aprox figures) £294, a Land Rover discovery 3 £504 with my wife and I to drive both cars, and then for my daughter to be the policy holder on her new Mini One 1.6 £718 - FULLY COMPREHENSIVE.:j
Now I cant find anywhere to beat that. Her excess is about £500 but I can live with that. The discovery does not renew until September, they just add it in and send you a post dated Certificate but you benefit from the discounts now. My daughter's policy does not start until 8th June but it is all ready to go - and they dont take the premium until the policy starts. Happy Happy Father. :T:D0 -
Hi
I am a student and have been driving for a year. My insurance is due in a week, but I am going away to work in the USA for 3 months.
I am insured with diamond. As you can appreciate my insurance is highI don't want to lose the years no claims I have got. If I do renew now, would I lose it and my premium go up? Any advice would be great.
Thanks0 -
If you don't renew, your NCD will still be awarded and can be used when you come back to start a new policy.
(You do know about having to sorn your car if it's uninsured? And that you will have to self insure it against fire/theft/etc)0 -
Not sure if this is the right place to post this. My daughter was on her first car insurance renewal, her first policy being with PO. She found another much cheaper renewal and went with that policy.
It appears they had some sort of automatic renewal and took £90 from her for a policy they never provided. They have given her the run around asking for proof of the other policy, then saying they didnt get it etc etc. She is a part time student trying to work her way through an education system that let her down and she could be doing with this money.
Has anyone any advise about how I should help her tackle this?

Teach her to read important documents properly.
The policy docs will have made it clear the policy would autorenew unless they were instructed otherwise. As will the renewal notice.
She should comply with their request as it will be to her advantage as they sound as if they will do a premium refund if she proves she had dual insurance. Resend the required proof by recorded delivery.0
