I have neglected this thread for a while as my lack of overpayments was making me feel a bit out of place :o

Life has been quite busy since I made my last update:
    • Mrs E passed her driving test and is now sharing driving duties
    • Mrs E got a healthy pay rise
    • We had our first service and MOT and experienced the joy of a £300+ repair bill
    • We got our boiler timer replaced, so shouldn't face another £700 gas bill this winter! (maybe I already mentioned this)
    • We got our circuit board replaced, so changing fuses now consists of flicking a switch
    • I put up floor length blackout curtains at both bay windows in the sitting room, the room feels far more welcoming and warm
    • We picked up a free pressure cooker and have been won over as quickly as it cooks food :rotfl:

On the MFW front, we've actually made some progress. I'll be posting a cheque for £1600 to the Spanish bank this evening and this will take us to (just) under 80% by the end of our current deal. The current plan is to remortgage for 21 years (taking 2 years off the original term, as well as the two 'actual' years). We decided that while savings and investments are all well and good, our home is quite important to us. We can't avoid paying for somewhere to live, so OPing is probably a good idea for us.

I'm allowing for £1,000 for product/remortgage fees, so we have 3 salaries to save this.

Also, although house prices are all relative, we are pleased to see that our nominal value has ticked up a bit since we moved in 2012. We have decided to replace our naff 70s kitchen to improve this further, as we can't really do much structurally to a flat. I am not really sure how much this will cost (estimating maybe £5-7,000 for removal and disposal/re-plaster/re-decoration/new kitchen/conversion of alcove into seating area with benches). We're hoping to start saving for this by Christmas, although it will be paid for with a combination of savings and money stoozed on interest free credit cards (we currently have £2,000 tucked away).
  • Nice to see you Ed!

Well done to Mrs E on passing her test and good luck with your future plans for the flat - new kitchen - exciting!

I love my new pressure cooker, even if it's a bit squealier than these bad boys

We're using it for almost every meal at the moment (tonight was Thai green curry soup)

Just finished rehanging a wall-mounted towel rail after someone {cough - Mrs E!} had a tipsy lean on it and pulled the screws out :rotfl:

Forgot to call Santander, but have the cheque, account details, an envelope and an 0800 number for them ready for the morning.

TTs - 52p into remortgage pot, £1 into kitchen pot.

I'm ahead of myself this week after a trip to Morrison's this evening. Shopping was very cheap as I'm on a bit of a health kick and am largely eating vegetables. £28, including a new light bulb for the cooker, chocolate, and fancy ice cream. I should point out that it's a Monday-Friday afternoon health kick, weekends don't count!

A wild MFW day here :rotfl:

I think I'm coming down with something, feeling a bit carp.
    • OP cleared already
    • Haircut this morning
    • 16p to kitchen pot
    • £2.48 to remortgage fund
    • Paid factor's bill, it's nice having these sorts of things budgeted for.

Other than that, I have hoovered, polished shoes and had a cheeky half pint. Off to change the fish tank water now :j
  • Currently having a naughty bottle of wine... hic..
