Know your rights - but don't just rely on them. Remember to use common sense when looking at 'deals' and be a bit sceptical.

Also - get a job as early as you can. It instills a work ethic that you will be happy o fin later life. Work doesn't have to be glamorous to be great fun.
  • Take a packed lunch and flask. Buying lunch/coffee every weekday for £5 = £1,300 a year. What could you use that £1,300 for?

Shopping as a hobby means spending money on things you didn't know you needed. Buy less, live more.

Spend money on experiences not things.

If you didn't know you needed it, it's not a bargain.

Use the 2 for 1 meal deal vouchers on the www.moneysavingexpert.com for a meal out with friends.

Running a car costs money. If your mate is always givng you lifts, be a good mate back and offer to share petrol costs.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Use cash when treat-shopping /nights out - cards makes you feel like you're not spending the money, that way you wont over-spend.

Planning your meals for the week in advance can help you save £££s at the supermarket.

Cooking from scratch is fun, cheap and easier than you think. Check out free recipes on the internet.

Freeze leftovers or food that’s near its sell-by date to use again another time.

Check out local £1 shops for basic household goods.

  • Always plan for the future. Ask yourself where you would like to be or what you would like to have in 10 years time and plan for it. No one else will look after you so look after yourself.

Sell your Xbox/PS3 games as soon as you lose interest in them, you'll get more money selling sooner rather than later. Check out the price they're selling for on ebay before trading them in to find where you'll get the most money back.

Always know how much cash is in your purse/wallet - and how much is in the bank!
try to withdraw cash at FREE cashpoints and draw out enough for a week at a time - from then on ONLY deal with the cash you have available!
Dont take your credit card out with you if short of funds - you will only see something that you desperately want - and will give in to temptation if your card is with you!!!!
  • Keep a spending diary for a week every now and again just to see where your money goes.

Brand name isn't everything. If you're brand conscious, cheat where you can, people often don't notice.
