For the one who posted about Roy Castle, for the record, he started his career playing in smokey working mens clubs - when the risks of both smoking and passive smoking were clear. He didn't have to choose that career but he did. Just like choosing whether to run across the road in front of a truck or not. If you choose to and you die, is it your fault or the truck drivers? Same difference!
Thanks to the new law, I soon won't be able to enjoy a drink in a pub anymore. Have you seen the amount of pubs up for sale/to lease since this new law has been announced? It's not just smokers who will lose out, but landlords/managers/bar staff as well. So as well as infringing human rights for people to smoke - people are losing they're livelihoods as well! Call this fair?
There are plenty of smoke-free pubs and clubs as restaurants around for the non-smokers, so why pick on the smokers? It seems to me it's like the new 'in-thing', just like carbon emissions and organic, low fat low taste food! For the record as well, did you know that the toyota prius (the car all the 'green do-gooders' want) gives off more emissions and uses more fuel than a new 'normal' car does? Not exactly saving the environment there then eh?
For the non-smokers who read this thread and objected, I have one question - Why? The thread title states "free cigarettes from surveys.com", pretty obvious as to what the thread is going to contain! It's like when some women complained of not being allowed in working men's only clubs and then a law came in that they had to be allowed, and the same women complained that they didn't like it and wouldn't go in! Therefore the objectors here are giving me the impression that they wanted to try and give off a 'holier than thou' image and cause trouble. It's people like this that MSE don't need.0 -
Your real name isn't Jeremy Clarkson by any chance is it mrsyorkie?
:D
I'm not going to contribute to the opinions here one way or the other (apart from reiterating that the debate belongs more in the Arms than on the freebie thread) but I reckon the hot air being generated here must be such that the smokers could probably light one up without the use of matches...0 -

Contrast this with the number of petition panics when HM govt think about having a go at the CO2 producers. And the idiots think they're going to make a difference with 1 million or so objectors. Sorry, time is running out - if a minority of 20 million or so can be demonised, a couple of million will be a pushover...
Anyway, back on topic - was a freebie kiindly provided, not interested myself (I smoke, but the returns over effort don't attract me), maybe we should apply similar logic to "cheap/bogoff anything" posts - somewhere down the line will be suffering, or maybe that's all ok as long as it isn't you..?0 -

the government gets £8 billion from tax from cigarettes, and it spends £1.7 billion on smoke related illnesses per year. bit of a difference. (thats from brief intervention training pack, smoking cessation).0

this was suppose to be a link for smokers not for people to lecture smokers for smoking in the first place...0
