woooooah...
Ex-smoker here.... I have to say both sides have good points to make... and no one likes a hypocrite, or people who look down their noses at others... but that goes for both sides here.
Some of the views people have end up being a little extreme when they feel they have to defend themselves. Which also makes them less receptive to an opposition's opinion. Me included, its human nature.
BOTTOM LINE.... both sides should have a little respect and not be so judgemental and dismissive.don't attack me... i'm nice

Thanks for posting earlybird, as I don't always read my survey emails straight away.

hi it does get rather annoying because a lot of hypocrysy does come into it people want smoking banned as it damages health, which is fair enough, but in same point there driving around in cars which causes just as much damage with pollution ect,im sure like i said before if they banned driving then im sure there would be a lot of unhappy people. It`s getting to the point0 -

Agreed dollop... as far as the car thing goes there won't be much progress with that until the public transport is improved... but even then there may be little impact on car users
I understand the health argument more, as it is a fact that some smokers are thoughtless. I was always conscious of not getting the smoke in other people's faces etc... I quit for my own health so its not nice when people blow smoke in my face!
But I don't agree with the way some people look down on smokers like they're the dregs of society. thats out of order.

lets take the views from both sides
non-smokers (like myself) dont like smoke being blown into our faces etc because we CHOOSE NOT to smoke and therefor CHOOSE NOT to be at greater risk for illnesses such as cancer
smokers dont like non-smokers for being constantly on their backs, they have CHOSEN to smoke and therefor if your not around me, nor do i know you, then I dont give one.
Cars do not cause as much damage to every bodys health as smoking does, ok some of the same chemicals are in exhuaghst gases alot of them are not. CO2 from cars, power stations are in alot lower levels than they are when they come out of a cigarette because they are at a smaller percentage in air than they are in your lungs.
Don't take that as a lecture, im just pointing out facts. Yes car fumes kill, but so do fags, but then again so do guns and knives and so does fast food.
It has become the fashion to "knock" smokers because it is a damage to everyones health, like it has fast food, the environment, gun and knife culture and binge drinking. Anything that can damage our health is knocked, which personally I believe is a good thing, it increases awareness of bad things. Although I do not belive it is nice to bully or discriminate people for there choices.
More to the point about discrimination, many people that smoke have fag breaks at work during the day, so therefor aren't putting in as many hours as people that don't smoke and both are getting paid the same. The non-smoker is not allowed to have a break whilst the smokers are doing this. But please don't take this out of context, im not saying that this is the case with everyone.
As for some smokers being "careless" and "thoughtless" I would agree as many a time as a younger child I was almost burnt by fag ends that people had down by there sides.
Like I said before about myself not caring if people I dont know smoke or not, its there decision aslong as they dont blow it into my face and keep their fags away from me. If there was to be someone I know, I am close to and I truly care about then I would have a completely different take on the matter although I won't go into this.
Its your decision to smoke or not to smoke, if u smoke don't smoke in none smoking areas and after the 1st of July don't smoke in public place or whatever the ban is. If you dont smoke dont keep having a go about it, although my personal opion is I think smoking should be comepletly banned, I would not care about the increase in taxes on other things. But thats because I strongly believe health is one of the most important things in life.0 -
i think in gonna go back to the free chocolate thread!
nobody gets grief for eating chocs do they! (do they??)0 -
smokers and non-smokers can live happily together. i don't smoke but dad, sis, OH, best friend smoke, never argue about this. as long as we respect each other's choice and be considerate, no problem at all. they normally smoke outside the house, if not possible, will switch on exhaust fan and they smoke right under it. i never complaint or talk about this, just go to another room. most public space has smoke/non smoke section, so everybody is happy, what is the big deal? it is freedom of choice.
dad & sis suddenly quit, nobody knew why including themselves, they just suddenly made another choice and never looked back, again nobody comment on this, it is their personal choice and we respect that. simple.
think OH would be interested to do this survey, is it too late to sign up?0 -
the same people that preach about smoking are the ones that drive their 2litre 4x4's round every day to do the school run when they could easily do it in a 1.4 corsa...
so hypocritical its disgusting.0 -
