But you seem to be in it for yourself?!?0 -
Note - Grumpy Old Woman post coming.
When my kids were little I was a SAH mum because our mortgage and bills could be paid from my husband's wage. He wasn't earning loads, probably the equivalent of around £26k today, but at that time it was enough to pay everything. Had I gone to work I'd have had no help at all with childcare, tax credits etc because those types of benefits didn't exist. There was something called Family Income Supplement (FIS) but hubby was earning too much for that.
Children's activities were something that could or couldn't be afforded - they weren't a 'right' which unfortunately the OP seems think they should be in some of her posts. Just as if I suddenly got a hankering to learn to fly, I couldn't afford it, my kids could only do the activities we could afford. Holidays were something that other people had - we only had 2 or 3 in the first 10 years of my girls' lives.
So, where are I with all this? Well I do think that if you have children you should expect to pay for them, including any activities. If you can't afford the dance classes when your benefits drop then either you sacrifice something else, find another form of income, or explain to the child that money is tight and you can't afford it any more. Maybe cancel the family holiday and pay for the dancing lessons that way? Or cut back on other luxuries, posh coffees, magazines, days out?
Society today seems to be of the mind that everyone should be able to have anything they want. Unfortunately life isn't like that, and to rely on benefit payments going forward is a surefire way to be disappointed.0 -
they were helpful, you have3 choices
1) Stop the dance classes
2) Spend less somewhere else to subsidise the dance classes
3) Earn more to subsidise the dance classes
Option 4 of keep stealing from the state has been removed.
I disagree with a lot of the benefits paid out in this country, but you are being extremely unfair to the OP. They haven't been stealing from the state, they have been receiving what the government wants to pay them - just like CB - you say you shouldn't be paid it......why don't you hand it back then? I hate the fact that some people receive ridiculous amounts of benefits - I see it 1st hand every day, but come on.....£10 a week isn't crippling the country but it does give a bit of breathing room to a lot of families. Who actually cares what the OP did with the money....I don't......oh my god.....buying your children clothes or giving them a hobby to entertain them/keep them off the strret/keep them fit and healthy/give them future job prospects.........would you rather the child sat in their bedroom watching TV all night.....or is that a luxury too????
If the OP was coming on the forum gloating about stealing benefits or saying they spent their benefits on luxuries, fair enough -have a go......but this is just ridiculous.
There are too many people on this forum with far too much time on their hands.
.............and before you ask, I am at work but posting this while on a break.0 -

It's not about the dance classes, it's about buying basics such as clothing, yes occasionally goes towards dance fees but this I consider to be part of her education, (after all it counts as UCAS points) childrens's clothes are expensive, especially as they are mostly in adult clothes from being teenagers. So every little helps especially as we don't earn that much.
In fact increasing hours isn't an option, we will both be lucky to hold onto our jobs if anything0 -
