For people with different circumstances you can work it out provided you know what elements you are entitled to and can do a bit of simple maths.
1) Add up the elements you are entitled to, see link below (you get a child element per child but just one family element)
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/taxcredits.htm
2) Divide by 0.41
3) Add 6420.0 -
I received a letter this morning telling me that my payments are stopping if I don't do anything knowing we don't earn above the cut off point I have just rang them.
Be warned if you don't reply to these letters they will just cancel your claim and you will need to re-claim again and try to get any monies backdated if you're entitled to anything. If you do ring them you ask for the claim to be kept open and they will send the renew forms as normal and you disclose your actual P60 figures then and will then get an accurate decision.
A bit cheeky of them to automatically try to close my claim when they have confirmed the figure we are allowed is just over 32K and last years figures were under 28k0 -

This is unbeliveable. HMRC seem to have lost the plot completely.
Did your letter state that the cut-off point for CTC is £26,000?0 -

Hiya,
It's basically a one page single sided letter and in bold print says 'Your claim for tax credits will end from April 2012 unless you contact us'
It then says that this is because my household income is too high now or will be too high from April based on the information they hold. Both statements are utter rubbish of course because our income is not too high now and most probably won't be come April as through no choice of our own our hours and pay have decreased since the last P60 figures.
It says that working tax credit for a single household is £13,000 and joint is £18,000 and for child tax credit the income limit is £26,000 for both single and joint households.
Hmmm thank God I had been reading this thread because those are of course totally wrong because it depends on how many children you have. We have two children and don't even earn enough they know that but if I was to have taken that letter at face value I could well have lost anything I am actually entitled to.
Why on earth say that my claim is ending, that we earn too much and give the figure for maximum earnings for a family with one child when they know that none of that actually applies to us?0 -

It's scandalous. I'm going to see if MSE Towers will highlight this on the main site. Not sure how to do this though...0 -

Hey gillybean129 i also got my letter today, we both work fulltime and have 3 kids, we loose child tax credits and wont get help with childcare costs now. theres gonna be an awful lot of families struggling after April, and it is nice to give each other support. Good luck. :j
If your letter states the limit is £26,000 then it is very wrong in your case - with 3 kids and childcare costs you will still get tax credits on MUCH higher incomes.
As an example, if your childcare costs are £200pw, your income limit will be over £56,000, not £26,000 !!0 -
What would be much fairer and make families more self supporting would be if tax codes were increased with each dependent a tax payer has.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0
