TalkTalk - Yay or Nay?

  • Stay away from them big time. I am a web designer and have been online since 97 and that was in Germany. I was on Pipex Broadbands top end package (around £30) and had the full speed that my line could handle (7Mgs) since 2003 and I have to say what an absolutely fantastic service.. in fact.. faultless. TalkTalk had always and has been known as a joke within the net community. Then out of the blue I had a letter telling me that Pipex had been bought out by.. yep you guessed it.. TALKTALK!! I knew from the outset I was gonna have problems. From the word go I had problems, lies and basically a foreigner sat in front of screen going through a list trying to sort out a problem he/she has no clue about. Tech dept my BUTT! haha..
Ever seen phone jacker with the "Internet Service Providings" character? Well you get the drift.

    Lets start form the beginning.
Lie No1: When the transition happened they told me it couldn't be them as it is still on the same line from start to finish. Not knowing that I know my S*** I witnessed on the day via a website when the server was moved from Milton Keynes (Pipex) to Yorkshire (TalkTalk).
Lie No2: We will phone you back .. Honest?.. NOT!
Lie No3: I will give you the number to the tech dept direct. Number given was just a different number to the customer services.. lol

I will still in the 7 day cooling off period and so got the hell out of there but for the moment I am still on TalkTalk until the transition takes place and its a nightmare. I am getting cut off every 20 to 40 minutes. So I have phoned them everyday since it went over (nearly two weeks) to try and sort it and make my presence known.
Here is the thing though. If you get to 2nd line Tech (never Uk) and you start telling them how it is you (amazingly) get cut off the phone line.. lol.. If you get to the question about the router and (allegedly) its a router that they do not have on their list they will blame the router!... To put this to the test I got through to 2nd line tech dept this morning and lied about the router. Basically I told them I had a router that they had on their list which meant I got moved to the next stage (remember the techies with the list on their screens??) and they did a line text. I have a perfectly running Belkin router from 2004 by the way and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Amazingly they did a line text and guess what?? They couldn't find a fault with my line or router which just proves that it doesn't matter what bloody router it is they all do the same job! but then I already knew that. So they told me that they have turned up the voltage on the line.. Guess what? No change. Tomorrow I will phone again and ask them to turn off the Interleaving which they are obliged to do and a lot of times this sorts out the problems.. but then you would think they would know that.
ANYWAYS.. STAY AWAY FROM TALKTALK.. Can't stress that enough..

Well in the interests of balance I've found them cheap and cheerful. Been with them 2 years and never had a problem until last week when my broadband speed fell through the floor, to less than the old dial-up speeds!

I couldn't face calling an Indian call-centre and going through mind numbing step-by-step troubleshooting, that I'd already done myself anyway.

I was pretty pleased to find out they have an online customer support forum; so I tried posting my problem there. Within 24 hours my problem was solved, I now have even better speeds than I have before.

Sorry, but can't fault them in my experience.
  • I have been with talktalk for the past 6 months and it is the worst company that I have come across I have a problems since day one and still have it. I have spent hours on the phone, sent emails, so for the last resort I have had to cancel my contract and they have still not replied.

So do not go with talktalk

@thesoldier ... interleaving is usually better for a connection as it incorporates Forward Error Correction, hence reduces the risk of lost packets. Just saying. :)

been with them for just over 3 years and more than happy with them.
Hark at you going all strict :D
  • My WORST nightmare! Been with Pipex for years for line rental, phone and broadband. Moving house soon and am changing to new supplier, so advised them of the date 3 weeks before moving. 2 days later my line is disconnected. Numerous calls to Pipex and Talktalk call centres (using my neighbour's phone) to ask to get reconnected and they can't help because there is no record of my ever having had an account nor a record of my phone number. And yet I can look online at my previous 45 monthly bills!!! And I am sure I will get more.

This organisation (I use the term loosely) is an absolute shambles, nobody to take charge of a problem. And I have to advise the world and his wife of my new address without internet connection or landline........

I really hope someone in their employ will read this for some feedback.
  • Hi I have been with them for about two years with no problems yet but never had to contact them for any problems but I'm sure there might be problems if I do.
