TalkTalk - Yay or Nay?

Hello There!

I may not be as active as I'd like to be on these forums but I'm hoping some of you may be able to offer me some advice.

I'm currently with Plusnet for my Internet and Telephone. I've never had any major problems nor have I ever had issues with my Broadband. In fact it's more stable than when I had Virgin Media Cable Broadband a few years ago.

The problem is with Plusnet my Internet is limited to 60GB usage and when streaming this can be a pain in the rear. I tend to watch TVCatchup a lot of the time and use other online streaming services including iPlayer, ITV Player and NetFlix (Well it's on my Apple TV!)

I've been looking at switching providers to someone able to offer a better allowance or unlimited and the one that keeps popping up is TalkTalk.

One of their packages offers Unlimited usage plus 9 months half price, wireless router, landline with unlimited calls and some boosters (All a special offer at present)

The deal seems nice and would benefit me as it's about £2 cheaper than Plusnet but critically offers unlimited usage which is what I'm after.

The only problem I've seen so much bad publicity about TalkTalk. A quick Google reveals lots of problems but a lot seems to date back to 2010 and early 2011.

Does any one have any first hand experience on there customer service and broadband service?

I'm wondering if it should just take the risk but it's a 12 month contract where as with Plusnet I'm free to leave and I always talk to someone English. Not that talking to someone in India bothers me so long as they know what they are talking about.

Any advice would be appreciated please.

Nay nay and thrice nay, can you get Sky BB unlimited at your exchange?
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Don't do it!

Since they took over my line rental 10 days ago my broadband hasn't worked. I feel as though I'm being passed from pillar to post. Their communications are dreadful. I've spent well over 10 hours on the phone mainly waiting to get through to someone in India.

It's the worst decision I ever made
I need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 2013

Only my experience (I've just swapped the opposite way to you!) is that like most things, when it works, TT is fine - it's when you need help that the fun starts. So far I've found the Plusnet service faultless - my internet was only down for one evening during the change over and there was endless updates on the progress.
The TT online forum reps always respond sensibly, but not much good when your internet's down! As for the phone support - it really has to be experienced to be believed - honestly, very, very poor. The (Indian) staff are pleasant enough but they have limited knowledge and won't deviate from their script. I'm no expert, but can work my way round a PC & router, but I pity those poor people who have limited PC knowledge and try to get help from TT phone support, I really do.

BUT, they're undoubtedly one of the best value providers - just don't say you weren't warned!

  • You'd be insane to leave PlusNet for Talk Talk. Unless you can guarantee 100% that the TT service will never go down or you will never ever need to talk to their 'customer service' department. Which, obviously, you can't.

I've never heard bad things about PlusNet (we use them) and I've never heard good things about Talk Talk.
  • I had talk talk and they was useless, had alot of downtimes sometime days @ a time.

I've had TalkTalk for the past year. No problems at all.

When I had to contact customer services for some queries, I got through quite quickly and they did what was requested without any hassle.

I had switched from BT and PlusNet. I've not had any downtime, so cannot comment on how they might have responded then.

My neighbours have been on TalkTalk for a lot longer, and they have had no problems either.

I've been with TalkTalk for many years now, and have never had any trouble from them. I never find speaking to foreign staff a problem. I tell them to forget the script, and tell it as it is. They usually laugh, and are very helpful. TalkTalk are also very generous with little offers of free month's rental, if I ask (about once a year). So, all in all, I'm a very satisfied customer.

I would not change providers. :))

Used to have talktalk, not from choice though they took over our previous supplier. Finally managed to escape their clutches but as others have said connection kept dropping and slow. As for customer service forget it, the worst I have ever experienced.
