Great ideas from taxi there. You mentioned the gardening a few weeks ago and I was going to PM you about it. That has reminded me that I didnt do that in the end, so expect to hear from me later.
Just a thought and Im sure it wont bring in much income, but every little helps. A friend of mine last winter advertised to shop for the elderly to save them braving the chilly weather . It actually brought her in a fair bit of work during the winter months, she then did their gardening in the summer. Just a thought.

I have a friend who walks dogs during the day for people who work full time. She also looks after small animals when their owners are on holiday, either by popping in to feed them each day or by having them at hers for the week. Perhaps you could do something similar?
Maybe you could make your own sign for the post office? Tap into a market that isn't even there yet! Sometimes people don't even know they want a gardener/cleaner/pet sitter until they see someone advertising the service.Debts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Hope you manage to find a way out of things, there are lots of sensible suggestions here and good advice, am usually rubbish at that so will leave to others who are so much better.
Wait until after Xmas and New Year about the Captain as know it would be heart breaking for you, if it was me would be losing my house first before I lost the horse, but hey thats just me, she would have to budge up in her stable to make room for me

OK so some great ideas there, there is a way out of this.
Also have you thought about volunteering e.g. meals on wheels or the like? You get petrol money and can get some good things for the CV to bulk it out for present time?
I know all about the older horse issues and finding the right person, you can solve this. You have a lovely little girl who rides him a bit, what about making that more frequent and in return for say shoes? Gentle exercise and regularly is the key for the golden oldies to get more golden for us and a character can be useful for people to get experience on, even at slow and low frequency. It is worth asking people just in case.

G'day Piq
I was nearly in tears myself reading what you've put on here on of course all the lovely responses.
The only thing I can offer you is some socks (seriously my draw is overflowing with them thin ones, thick ones, bedsocks etc size 4-7) send me a pm with your address please.
I wanted to let you know that although you won't think it bothers you having family on the other side of the world at this time of year it's bl**dy awful.
I've been in the UK for 6 years now and although I have the most wonderful husbandpet (I'm getting more suspicous:rotfl:), family-in-law and fantastic friends there's nothing compared to spending christmas with your own family and for me it seems that as soon as it's the 1st of December arrives I turn into a sobbing wreck for the next 31 days. At least with technology there's no need for anyone to miss out, I showed my parents our new house using Skype on my phone and they loved it. Admittedly not the same as showing them around in person but the closest I'll get until they're able to afford to come over again. I remember years ago my parents used to decide every couple of months which set of parents they could afford to ring as an hours phone call use to cost £40 upwards. thank goodness it's no longer like that.
Oh and if I don't get a pm with your address in the next week I will track you down by any means and get the blooming socks to you and you know you don't want to mess with an aussie
Hope that the blood tests go well and that you do feel the love from everyone around. It might take asking someone in real life to help but if they are true friends you know that they will.
If you lived near me I'd pay you to bake me some muffins, I stupidly agreed to make dessert for christmas dinner and I can't bake - at all.
Love and massive hugs

Love the ideas and would really stress the cooking idea.. offer anything from dinner parties on a budget (say £15 per head food) plus hourly rate for your time. Childrens parties - do the food. You could do this with your eyes closed. (Colin and the Captain could even do the entertainment:rotfl:)

Hi Piq
What a great bunch your Piq family are with all the responses so far. You were in my thoughts last night - and again today and I agree with so many of your 'family'. Doesn't seem possible at the moment - but things will get better - I'm convinced of it. May sound too simplistic but often things turn up when you are at your lowest - in ways you weren't expecting and when you least expect it.
I agree you should use your skills in cooking and gardening, (and writing 'Colin and Captain' articles). Have you considered working for an agency as a LSA or notetaker in a local college/school? You could contact a school or college yourself and ask if there are any vacancies. Of course it would be term-time only. Or as an invigilator in school or college for exams - and these take place most of the year now - not just in the summer.
Still in my thoughts!
