Oh Colin looks lovely. I so miss having a cat. Whilst our current house is 'ok', it is right by a very busy main road, and I couldn't bear it if a cat got run over. Let alone what it would do for the kids. So for now we will stay with a rabbit.
It is so cute, he lets my DS1 hold him upside down when they have the twice daily cuddles, and it looks like he nods off. Bless. A very good rabbit. Just having to think about getting his nails clipped though as they are VERY sharp. Is this something one should get done anyone?
chev
Yes you can clip a rabbit's nails. I used to do it for our rabbits when the children were younger. It's quite easy to do, especially if they have clear nails and you can see the bit where the vein is. You just clip using nail clippers or cat clippers on the nail below the vein. For peace of mind, it's worth getting the vet to show you how the first time. It normally costs about £10 to have a cats claws clipped, I can't see a rabbit costing more.
Colin is lovely! He let me clip his claws this afternoon and he doesn't even know me! Very gentle cat.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

G'day Piq
Only just back from my holiday to Oz and haven't read any further than this and feel that I need to say something, and that is that I understand the heartbreak as I've left behind my parents, sister and nieces and nephew. The last few days of the holiday were spent in tears just trying to work out if I'd done the right thing by staying in the UK (been here for 6 years now, was only meant to be a year, bloody husbandpet :rotfl:).
After a long discussion with both the husbandpet and my mum we've come to the conclusion that the UK is the best place for us at the moment and as much as it killed me to leave I am in the place I need to be for this time in my life. Very hard as Niece1 who's 8 asked if we could move closer and Niece2 who's 6 asked when I'd be pregnant so she'd have a cousin to play with.
Don't know if you have mentioned this again and extremely sorry to bring it up if you haven't but (I'm near tears writing this) my parents have told me that they're proud of me for following my heart and for doing what I want to do and also they can see how happy I am especially with husbandpet.
Will leave it at that before I do start crying but if you ever need a chat please feel free to pm as it is something that only a select few will understand.
Love

I am proud too of my daughter following her dreams. I have spoken to her. She phoned as soon as I had let her know that the Bear had died, she was very upset for me and offered to come home, needless to say, I told her to stay put.
I can imagine that your parents are proud of you too. It's a fine thing to have brought a child up to independence. A very wise friend told me on the birth of my first child to always remember that a child is only lent to you, the child is not yours to keep forever. You have to give them the love they need to live their dreams.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

I planted lots of pansies in a pot for Katy's grave, they are not out yet but for Autumn, so should look pretty when out. Still looking for a nice memorial stone for her.
Enjoy Colin he sounds like he deserves a nice home.
Well Colin just turned up when I was least expecting it and I'm sure a cat will for you too. I still miss the Bear and will always treasure the time I had with him.
Today the lad at the stables gave me a beautiful stone for the Bear, it glistens in the light with tiny sparkles, it is a rough triangular shape and smooth for me to be able to paint his name on. It will look lovely.
I love pansies, I love their smiley faces and velvet texture. Katy will love them too. Certain sorts of pansies, violas I think, self seed and will stay around for a long time to come.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

So pleased you have found Colin. I do hope you write about his adventures - along with Captain's and your own.
I wish you well in your life and do hope I can read about lovely Colin.

He's here and he's absolutely enchanting.
He's very friendly and affectionate, he jumps a little at unexpected noises, but that's only to be expected, he's in a new environment.
Colin is very definitely his name, if I call it, he comes running and weaves in and out of my legs purring loudly. There is no chance of changing his name! He happily lies next to me on the sofa with a paw on my thigh or laptop, still purring or walks around the room rubbing his face against anything and everything to make sure everyone knows this is his pad now.
The sanctuary said he may be off his food for a few days and not to worry. I do hope this is not true as he has already eaten a bowl of dried biscuits, two pouches of cat food and a hearty portion of roast chicken. How much will he eat when he regains his appetite?
I have achieved nothing this afternoon as I've just watched him or played with him. He's been tearing up and down the hall after a small rubber ball, leaping in the air and pouncing on it or sliding helter-skelter after it on the stone tiles. I'd forgotten how energetic young cats can be.
He's very gentle and is happy to be stroked and has let me clip his claws as they were too long and curved meaning he was getting caught on the carpet. I was surprised he let me as he doesn't know me.
I've let him have open run of most of the house, but I will shut off all the rooms with the exception of the kitchen, lobby and my bedroom when I go to bed. I will put his quilt from the sanctuary in my room for him to sleep on [I hope he sleeps and doesn't thunder up and down the stairs all night ]
I'll have to leave him tomorrow to meet my Dad for coffee, it's his birthday and then do a shift at Pr*t. As long as I leave a huge bowl of dried food he should survive....:rotfl:Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

I am so proud of you, you are a unique human being and a prime example of the human spirit when kicked into action. At the risk of sounding patronising, bit late now, I think that when failure or bad things happen that is when we learn our life lessons, when everything is going fine we tend to make all our mistakes which lead us to failure or consequences. Most people would not be so candid and honest, you told it like it was and I think people will read your post/thread whatever and know that if they are in trouble to not isolate and gather support and never be afraid to admit anything, self-acceptance and love is KEY:A

Hello Piq,
I've not been on the boards much at all recently for various reasons so just caught up and am SO sorry to hear about The Bear - it seems like he deteriorated really quickly. Your plans for his homecoming sound lovely and very fitting. Its so hard when a much loved pet is gone, we had one cat who in his old age used to lie round my neck and clamp himself to my head when he shared the pillow at night. I physically ached for that cuddle after he went - was a very strong feeling.
I would like to add my welcome to Colin though - he looks lovely and it sounds like you two have had a fine time getting to know each other
. Bet you wont want to go to work tomorrow and leave him. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures together.
No hugs I know but a wee pat on the arm from me
