Mortgage PPI claim?

Hello

I have a mortgage with Northern Rock and we used a mortgage advisor to set everything up for us. I was only 19 so didn't understand a lot of it to be honest and trusted him to sort it out. I am sure we were told we had to have PPI and in actual fact ended up with 3 separate types of PPI, 2 with Legal and General and 1 with Cardiff Pinnacle. A couple of years later I was going through the insurances, trying to save money where I could and cancelled the Cardiff Pinnacle one as it seemed like it was covering me for the same as the Legal and General ones.

My question is, if we went through a mortgage advisor can we claim for any PPI?

  • Do you mean claim or complain?

If you mean claim then only if you suffer a misfortune which the policy covers.

If you mean complain then on what grounds. Merely having a PPI policy is not bad advice. In fact the old Mortgage Code Compliance Board advocated advisers getting borrowers to sign a disclaimer if they did NOT want it - it was considered that important.

And it sounds like you were given the correct advice.

Highly unlikely all are PPI. Typically, with a mortgage, you consider PPI, life assurance, PHI and critical illness cover as the usual protection contracts.

Claim is what you do if you suffer a claimable event, like illness or death. Complain is what you do if you think you were mis-sold. Nothing in your post suggests any mi-sale or wrong doing. It does appear you are confused though. So, it may be worth getting a local IFA to look at your insurances and explain them to you. It may be that they can save money as well (insurance costs are generally lower today than in recent years)

Hi to everyone, I have'nt been on Forum since 2007 so feeling just a bit lost.
Anyway have put a claim in with the FOS 6 weeks ago for refund of misselling PPI from Cardiff Pinacle.

    Details of complaint
Took a loan for £20,000 in November 1999 with First National / GE
PPI £4,834 added.Box pre ticked NO OPTIONS WERE GIVEN)
Loan paid back in March 2002. Did not get a part refund due to loan being paid back early, (should have around £2400)

I had colan cancer we had £110 000 life Insurance and £40 000 Company insurance in place and BUPA CARE which paid for my Cancer Operation.

Found out in 2008 PPI was with Cardiff Pinnacle
Cardiff Pinnacle Insurance in 2008 could not find any documentation about the PPI. GE did,nt wont to know I even took them to court but the Judge ruled "status barred" PPI was not even mentiond during the hearing.
My complain to the FOS was against Cardiff Pinnacle as I had already gone down the GE route at Court.

NOW TOTALLY BAFFELED WITH REPLY FROM FOS
SAR does not mention any of these companies that the FOS are talking about in the following statement INFACT I'V NEVER HEARD OF THEM
Letter received yesterday saying " it would appear my complaint against Direct Auto Finance Insurance Services (trading as Yes Car Finance sold PPI before 14th January 2005 and was not a member of the GISC or MCCb we cannot consider complaint against it".
"It is possible however that you are entiteled to pursue a complaint against the underwiter (insurer) which provided the policy. I have been unable to idetify teh underwriters at this stage but if you send me further documentation you I may be able to set up a complaint against this firm"

DOES ANYONE THINK THE FOS HAVE MADE A MISTAKE AND GIVEN ME SOME ONE ELSE's ANSWER BUT TO MY COMPLAINT!!!

Just don,t understand whats goin on
Can anyone throw any light on this letter
Im so sorry it's so long
    Thanks

PPI is very much an FSA issue not a legal one. So, going to court wasnt likely to be a good option anyway and getting it thrown out probably saved you cost and hassle.

We need to clear things up a bit.
who sold you the PPI? (not who it is with)

Ok, this does seem to differ then because the answer you have had indicates they think you used a car dealer. In which case you should go back to them and tell them its not car finance done by a dealer and you think they have made a mistake.

Hi Thanks, I actually e mailed the lady who dealt with my complaint yesterday, telling her that I think a mistake has been made.

Personnally I am 100% convinced they have got the reply crossed with someone elses complaint.

First National now GE have never been interested, I acually went to Court over the PPI, well before the PPI really came to light in the media.
I started my complaint in 2006 when PPI was just beginning to be talked about.
Having reclaimed PPI from other Companies, this claim has taken nearly 5yrs and the only way forward now is to go to Cardiff Pinnacle with whom the PPI was with.

    Thanks for your imput.
Fasinating thread I will keep in touch with great interest now.

PS Apologise's to the above I did,nt realise I had highjacked you all
