You should go back to the doc's, you could just need loads of sleep, or maybe have sleep apnea, or even depression, or a defficiency of some kind etc... there could be many reasons and I really think your doctor should be helping you. It's obviously upsetting you and for that reason alone I think you should go back and ask your practice for more help ask him to look at other aspects and your recent weight gain.
  • OP do you do any exercise? i find that exercise gives me loads of energy...and helps to keep the weight down.

My OH tends to fall asleep on the sofa during the evening for an hour or so. he then comes to bed as normal around 11 or 12pm...he just gets tired and needs a catnap - probably because he gets up at 5am. But he is in his fifties - i wouldn't expect this from a 27 year old!

Also, is it worse in winter than summer? it could have something to do with cold/dark?
  • Hi,

It might be worth going back to the doc for reassurance and a thyroid or anemia check.

Could there be something in your routine making you tired e.g. diet, medication, alcohol etc?

just a word of warning..if you have sleep apnia they will have your license off you,,just be careful as a m8 of mine has lost his job because of it and is now getting divorced with a house repo to boot..His wife was worried about his snoring..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Sooki and all thanks. You make some good points and I will try to see a Dr again. I was trying to get a feel for if my sleep habbits were not natural as well. I feel they are not anyway...

If I were you I wouldn't worry too much, but maybe a checkup with the doc to be on the safe side. My OH is up at 6am for work through the week and is falling asleep on the sofa by 9.30pm, he sleeps until 9.30am - 10am on weekends and then stays up later those nights so you are not the only one who sleeps like that.
I sleep the same amount I just get up an hour later than OH so don't get tired until an hour later.

I know you don't feel like walking the dog but that might be the thing that gives you a boost, I suffer with SAD and through the colder/darker months I have to force myself to do things like that but I always feel better later on or the next day.

In answer to some of the questions, I do have a crap diet which I am trying to improve. I do excercise 3 or 4 times a week. I dont drink alcohol and I dont take any medication that I think would affect it. I do not notice much difference between between summer and winter. Thanks for all the comments. They are helpful in allowing me to think about this. I will however see a Dr as suggested.

Sorry, have to coment on this, the DVLA do not take your licence off you if you have sleep apnoea, but they will want a letter from your sleep clinic confirming that it is managed. Having said that I don't think this is the op's problem, he's be tired all day.
Best see the Doc get checked out.

as 8 hours is the AVERAGE amount of sleep an adult needs - I dont think 9 hours is in any way unusual. if the OP wakes refreshed and functions well during the day and early evening - then I would imagine that 9 hours is the norm for them!
you could try going to bed a half hour later than usual and see how you feel for a few days - if you struggle to wake and feel tired all day - then just accept you need the nine hours!
you do get up early hun - so its hardly surprising you are heading for bed at 9.00!
  • It depends if it is causing problems between you and your wife in that she feels neglected by not having your company in the evenings and resentful if she ends up doing the majority of housework/dog walking etc? Has she said anything about it?

My OH needs more sleep than me but he is a 48 yr old, type 1 diabetic who works permanent nights. It seems to me he's always sleeping! I usually go to bed around 11.30 -12 midnight and get up a 5.45am in the week. I'll lie in til 7 -8am on a weekend but probably go to bed a bit later anyway. If I went to bed any earlier I'd not get anything done round the house.

Some people just need more sleep than others I guess. You could try delaying your bedtime in five minute increments spread out over a few months so you end up going to bed later but have got used to it.
