Help! I think I sleep to much...

Hi all, I think I sleep to much and its having a negative effect on my life. In general I go to sleep before 9pm every night and on work days wake at 6am and rest days wake around 8am. Sleeping this much is causing issues as it means I spend little alone time with the wife as I am going to bed shortly after the children.

Not only do I feel tired I feel anxious if I do not get to bed as I often struggle the following day. This also effects social events and overall our relationship.

For example, I should walk the dog in the evening when my wife gets home from work but I often elect to go to sleep.

How do I train/get myself out of this. Should I force myself to go to bed later or what?

Thanks all.

Maybe you should see your GP, you could be anaemic, or there may be another reason?

You should maybe go and explain to the doc, I was the same as you and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, not saying that's what it is but could rule it out.

Thanks all for your replies. I have always been like this. Am aged 27, currently overweight at near 17 stone however only been overweight this past 18 months or so. I have seen one doctor about 2 years ago but maybe should see another. Had bloods done back then and nothing came up.

As others have said double check with you Doctor. I'm someone who has about 9.5 hours sleep per night and it can be even more sometimes. I've always been the same. It's the amount I feel refreshed with!

I would recommend going back to the doctor. I'm not sure if a normal bloodtest picks up thyroid issues or if it has to be tested for specifically. You might have to keep pestering the doctor as some don't like to do further investigation if they can palm you off with an excuse.
What is your diet like, do you eat healthily enough?

Needing 9 hours sleep is within the normal range.
Do you feel tired even if you sleep 9 hours?

I feel pretty ok if I have 9 hours sleep. Not tired until 8/9pm ish.

I am just the same, however I am anaemic, the problem is that I don't retain iron. So even though I get sufficient iron it doesn't stay in the system, they may need to to do a full blood count on a number of occasions to see this though, so I recommend a trip to the GP

Personally, I wouldn't be worrying about needing 9 hours sleep if you aren't tired during the day, but if it is worrying you, mention it to your doctor.

You're tired relatively early because you get up very early for work. I couldn't go out in the evening if I had to get up at 6am.
