When the OP gets the next insurance, he/she will have to give details of the licence (note no 's' in licence!) and any penalty points/date/type of offence. They may also require details of the previous insurance. In which case it may become apparent that the penalty points were incurred when not insured.

    On that car.

How could they know that? There are any number of circumstances where you could be caught speeding while not having your own insurance - like when driving a hire car for instance.

Pointless argument. The problem is driving without insurance. If you hire a car you are more than likely insured.

I cant believe that the Police admin don't run the car details through their systems to see if it is insured, and the drivers details through DVLA to see if they actually have a licence. I would have thought this would be par for the course?

Its not pointless. I was responding specifically to pineapple's point on the insurance company working out that the OP didn't have insurance from the conviction date and when the OP was known to have a policy. As I explained this is not possible.
  • To be honest I'd be surprised if they'd do any additional checks, most of the time these NIPs are processed by an office full of admin staff who'll just deal with the fine ASAP. I reckon the best bet is to Just post the form with payment for the fine rather than risk getting yourself into more trouble by coming up with some dodgy scheme.

    Huh?

So if they have a photo of one person in the car, they then receive a provisional licence, do you not think they'll look into that?

Frankly I think this person is an idiot and like so many others, they're responsible for my costs going up. The spare car is now stuck on our drive thanks to people like this because I can't leave a tax disc on it without continuous insurance.
  • You're going to get bummed, and rightly so. You're the reason I pay so much for insurance, thanks for being part of the reason I had to sell my weekend car and enjoy losing your license.
  • pepipoo.com will be the forum to visit to receive accurate and non judgemental advice regarding such issues, I suggest you head over there quickly.

No, I don't think they will. More than likely the photo was taken from the back so they won't get a good view of who was in the car. Add to that the people who do the processing just want to get the paperwork through quickly (I know because my sister used to process NIPs for the police) and I'd say the op will probably get away with it.
  • The insurance and provisional wont come into it.
I went to the local court to get my speeding points added and pay the fine. They were written on by a clerk. The clerk surely doesnt have access to pictures, circumstances etc.

Oh and when stopped for no seatbelt recently, the only reason the police knew I had points was because I told them when asked.
