  • we do mollycoddle more and read more books now. perhaps it's because there's not so much 'community' as before so our only information comes from books and mags. i have found that the only 'advice' i ever get from anyone else is when they want to criticise, or compare mine unfavourably to theirs. people on the bus don't speak to me, they speak to my baby when they lean over and remove his dummy, telling him he doesn't need it

And as for allergies, I have a daughter who is anaphylactic, and a reaction can only happen after the 2nd exposure to an allergen.

I don't understand how you can say both of the above in the same post?

I think it's best to hold off introducing common allergens until the child is a) weaned off milk and b) big enough to be able to cope with the reaction without dying. At six weeks, I would say that was far too early to put a child through the risk of going into anaphylactic shock.

With so many well-intentioned people interfering these days, how can you be sure that someone sneaking your baby a bit of food, is the first person to do so? Might not be the first exposure to the allergen.

I think the mother was spot on to be concerned, and I say that as an allergy sufferer and a first aider, fully trained in dealing with anaphylactic shock, and unconscious babies.

I'm speechless that anyone would dip a new babies dummy in anything... especially an experienced dad.

I might be wrong but he must have known he was doing wrong as he didn't do it in front of you, he waited until your back was turned. By telling you he did it, it sounds like he's letting you know that he is going to take some control over your LO.

I'd be chaperoning her where he's concerned, at least til she's 21

Why do people feel the need to muck about with children? Maybe it's a power thing. Sorry but it makes me sooo angry :(

I enjoy a variety of foods but try to stick to the healthy options and do the same for my children - I only let them have chocolate once a week (as per dentists's orders) and avoid all the other sweets, I also watch added sugar and salt intake.

People still try and undermine you though - Dad stuck his finger in his beer and into the mouth of my 6 week old son. My daughter kept coming back from MIL with sweets that could make you glow in the dark they had so many chemicals in (made the bin glow!). Yesterday my son fell over so round comes MIL and stuffs 3 choci biscuits in his mouth whilst she goes on about the 14 stone 9 year old she saw in the paper.

    Give me strength......

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention as this has been discussed in this post. What a really sad story, for the sake of cutting up a grape into pieces.

As I previously posted, a friend lost a 3 year old because of choking on a grape, so even the most confident of eaters should have grapes chopped I think.
