Chocolate will not do the baby any harm. Fine it contains milk but so does baby formula.
Stop panaking - as for the grape thing - scaremongering!
Sorry, have to disagree with grapes and such like. A friend of a friend's LO dies of choking on a grape and he was 3! It is more common than you think..unfortunately
So, I don't think this is scaremongering, I think this is one good bit of advice passed on from one mother to another.:D
My LO choking scares me above anything else!
HTH someone,
JT xIt's great in here!0 -
If there is anyone worried out there about there children choking then the best advice i can give is do a child/toddler first aid course!0

as i said on the recent choking thread i forgot everything i had learned when my eldest choked - my head was full of cotton wool! but at least having some prior knowledge would have helped the hospital staff who i was on the phone to talk me through what to do.
children really do choke on grapes etc. it's such a shame. a friend looked after m,y son while i had a bath one day and he gave him a sherbet lemon sweet. they are a similar shape to a grape. he didn't know what to do when he was choking so he took him outside and dangled him upside down while a passing stranger hit him on the back to dislodge it. that sort of thing could do damage to a baby's little chest though.'bad mothers club' member 13

Re the thing about weaning - I had this very conversation with my HV this morning as for DD1 recommendation was 17 weeks, now it's 6 months for DD2. There's no way I can last until 6 months as DD2 is 16 weeks and ravenous, so going to start at the weekend. She said the reason it changed was to discourage childhood obesity as they found a link with early weaning and obesity. I can't claim to be an expert, but to me this sounds ridiculous!!! I shall be starting weaning again at 17 weeks with no qualms.0

i was told it's also because they think wheat causes problems, they think all the people of my generation are moaning about wheat or lactose intolerance nowadays because they were weaned too early and given rusks.
my sister asked the advice of the health visitor and was told it was okay to go ahead with weaning but to avoid wheat. all babies are different - my toddler is enormous and i used to get asked what i was feeding him on - people's jaws dropped when i answered - milk, he's not 6 months old yet so he doesn't have food. people couldn't believe that such a huge, fast-growing baby could be satisfied with milk, or they thought he must be consuming a large amount of milk but it just wasn't the case. my sister's baby needed early weaning and has a massive appetite yet he's not a large baby and he's not fat.'bad mothers club' member 13

Yes, she did say to avoid wheat and cows milk products, so will do that - just going to take it slow with babyrice. My DD is quite a biggie, on the 75th centile but only takes 5oz milk at a time, so am constantly feeding - and she's waking in the night again having gone through since she was 8 weeks. Hoping the weaning will cure that!0

it did for my nephew, he went back to sleeping through the night instead of waking for a feed. mind you early weaning did mean he was a chocolate button addict at a young age!'bad mothers club' member 13

I wouldnt worry about it. I'm sure she will be OK. In China they start weaning their babies at 8 weeks so I'm sure she will be OK.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Number 1 son born in 1989 fed a rusk in a botlle and mash / gravy at 8 week: neither unhappy , or a freak , despite a previous poster's suggestions
Number 2 son 1991, weaned at 4 months, as not really interested up to then
Number 1 daughter 1997 weaned at 5 months
Number 2 daughter 2001 NG fed, due to cardiac failure and other health issues.
My point is, all my kids were weaned at different ages, depending on their needs. I think parents nowadays are too dependant on going by the book, and should base their decisions on their own babies, and how these babies react/settle.
Reccommendations have changed dramatically over the years, and while, in a lot of ways, we have learned by our mistakes, the old ways wern't so bad, we all made it!
A little bit of chocolate wont to your babe any harm, except a wee gripey tummy, which she may experience when any new food is introduced.
And as for allergies, I have a daughter who is anaphylactic, and a reaction can only happen after the 2nd exposure to an allergen.
I think a lot of people are over reacting. Its not like he poisoned her. Maybe wasnt the best thing to do, but hardly a hangable offence.
His other kids seem to have survived the ordeal as well.
I know there is nothing as precious as your wee bundle, but I do think we mollycoddle kids a bit nowadays.
Anyway, thats my opinion, I hope your wee girl is better xI don't know much, but I know I love you ....<30
