I guess about £330 is VAT.
Good point ... never forget the government monkey on our backs.

  • Was it a weekend when you hit the cable or after 16.00pm on a weekday as this would incur an extra charge? When you hit the cable did you take yourself or anyone else off supply?
  • After 4 in the weekday and only took ourselves off supply

That will have triggered overtime rates and possibly minimum call-out times
  • A jointer working after 16.00pm would cost in the region of £98 per hour as this would have been at time & a half. From your costing of £551 i would have said that the jointers were on site for 5 hours. The material cost would work out what i would expect it to be. Network control could have been that as you were off supply then the distributor has to pay a charge to OFGEM which is £7.50 for going off supply & then 9p for every minute you were off supply.

I don't quite understand the charge for indirect labour. Did anyone else come out bringing a digger or any equipment? Did anyone reinstate your driveway?
  • Nobody else came out and they took about 3 hours to do the job

Not if they have cut through the whole cable they cant.

Mine totally blew up outside last year, they just dug up a bit of drive and jointed a new cable. The old bit they gave me was about a foot long ut it def. wasn't much.

The damage appears to have occured as a result of your contractors error / negligence to me.

Personally I think you should therefore pass it to your insurer & let them chase the contractor / their insurer in turn should they so wish.

If they were to take this to court I can't see how you could win.

Cant really see how the op has a leg to stand on, full stop Im afraid
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

The recommended depths are to avoid inductance, just dont buy a horse ! it will be toast if the cable is only at that depth
