British Gas Harassment

Hi,
Since i moved into my house in August 2007 i have suffered repeated harassment from BG regardimg unpaid bill that does not belong to me. I changed suppliers when i moved into the property which was a new build property, no-one had lived there previously. BG have in the past looked into the problem and then admitted that it is not my bill and there has been a mistake - a few months later i get another letter and it starts all over again - hours on the phone - letters etc. This has gone on for 4 years! i've recorded details of all communication and it amounts to 11 hours of time spent 26 phone calls and over 30 emails. i've filed a complaint with OFGEM last week. I've recently started reading about the case Ferguson V British Gas and wondered how much compensation i should be entitled to. Like the lady in the case i am a director of a company and have experienced considerable stress and anxiety with threats of being cut off, bailiffs, and credit ref agencies being informed. The difference might be that they address my letters to "the occupier" and i wondered what bearing if any, this would have on my claim. Any advice??

No it was just that the court case ruled in the Fergusons (business owners) favour because she said that if her credit rating was affected then would cause her business financial problems - - that added to her compensation.0

Don't settle for anything less than £10million."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

At the time I just wanted to get it resolved, i was at home looking after 2 young children and was just worried about being black listed or someone turning up at my house.
Each time i got it sorted with them and thought that was the last of it. But after a couple of months it would just start up again.
Each time they just addressed letters to "the occupier" so i propably wouldn't have a strong case anyway.0 -
i've just had a look at OFT guidlines and realised that this is not good for BG if they are sending letters to "the occupier" and making threats, they are in breach of guidelines. I should have looked into it more at the time but didn't really have the time as my daughter was so young.0

Ofgem to dot get involved in complaints from individual customers - To get this in front of the people who do you must WRITE a letter to BG headed Compliant, setting out the history and claiming a cost for the trouble they have put you through - What that figure is up to you - Say your free time is worth at least that which you are paid for working as a starting point?
With the letter sent, BG have 8 weeks to resolve the problem to your satisfaction before you can take it the Ombudsman0 -
Sorry to rain but companys can send letters in the name of the occupier so not sure where you got your info from, pass on the builders details to them end of. Compensation? £50 as others have said been a company director does not hold water. You also better tell the council off as they send letters in the name of the occupier alsoDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
