as a long serving meter reader for British gas, we always have problems with new estates where the developer has submitted incorrect meter details, serial numbers of meters etc which can take years to sort out. this is a straightforward issue, check your meter serial numbers match brit gases. Also meter readers get sent to plot numbers which change to house numbers at different times of the billing cycle.I take it you supplied Brit Gas with your start readings and your customer name, its odd that they continue to address you as occupier which may suggest a mix up with a vacant property0

Is there a formal process for you to feed back incorrect details?0 -
write down your full gas meter serial number, 13 digits on a metric meter and also your mpr (meter point reference number) which is individual to your meter and check with cust services that the bill they are trying to chase up matches your meter details. Its rare to find a new build estate which does nt get mistakes, sometimes ridiculous and upsetting with bills totally out with many properties not getting it sorted for years.Once something gets messed up it seems they are unable to sort it out.The developers do individual deals with suppliers so everyone in the same street starts with the same suppliers.I think, apart from developers just doing typos etc, its the plot numbers which they all start off with, then at sometime they are changed to house numbers which are different.Switch supplier if they allow you would be one way out of it0

Come on Guys, (and Guyesses), it's well known that builders can be very slapdash with plot & house numbers, but h2's problem has been going on for 4 years - I would certainly be looking for recompense if I'd had to keep fending off spurious bills for that length of time0

you re right dogshome, the suppliers are "greedy and lazy" to sort it out. These are words used last year by the regulator regarding suppliers. its the first time i d heard such strong words by the regulator.0

It also got worse when they split the gas networks up, in the days where it was the one this problem of crossed mpr's would of resulted in a trace and label been done. With most new builds been IGT , they cant do itDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
