re-fit the card, and run the .exe program you've just downloaded should do it :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • I couldn't see how to take the card out but managed to see what it was. Is this why the device is not coming up as being installed. Should I try to take the card out and put it back in to see if my computer then picks it up as new hardware?

I also went into device manager and to ethernet controller to update driver as it says the drivers for this device are not installed. I chose the advanced option to install from my memory stick. Click on removable disk F and it says to view subfolders to click on + above but nothing happens. If I open Disc F and then click on the download it asks me to unzip to a folder but I don't know which folder this should be.

I am about to give up and take it to the computer shop on Monday although I hate not knowing how to do something!

Thanks everyone for trying to help me.

Just double click to unzip it, it creates it's own folder. It might be easier if you copied the file over to your desktop first, rather than trying to install from the flash drive.

Don't give up - you're almost there. However, if all attempts fail then in the spirit of money saving, it would be cheaper to buy another card and software disc than taking it to a shop.

If you downloaded the driver, the file on your flash stick should be dwl520_driver_july_2002_9xmew2kxp.exe (you might not see .exe at the end)

As suggested, copy the file from your flash stick to your desktop first, then double click on the file. If it asks for a folder to install to and doesn't suggest one, then create a folder called dlink (or anything else of your choice) on your desktop and install it there.

If you clicked the wrong link, the file you have will probably be
dwl-520_quick_install_guide.zip (again you might not see .zip) which as the name suggests, is an installation guide.
How do I add a signature?
  • Thanks you lovely people. I will have one more attempt tomorrow. I spent time this morning making sure I had all my work backed up from the desktop in case anything went wrong when I opened it up so was late getting to install the drivers and haven't had time this afternoon.

You can't possibly destroy any data when installing a wireless card driver.
