So far, we know we have a Dlink pci or pci-e wireless adapter, but don’t know what model (the device manager doesn’t tell us).
You say the “.exe” is missing, where? It is not unusual for file types not to show. If you go to My Computer and click on tools, then folder options, then on View, if you look down, you will see “hide extensions for known files types”. If this box is clicked then the “.exe” wouldn’t show anyway.
Nothing to loose by going back to the Device Manager, then right click on the Ethernet Controller under Other Devices, then if it gives you the option, click on update driver. If you haven’t uninstalled it fully, you may be lucky and re-install it.
If not, and you don't have the original Dlink disk that would have come with it, you may have to take it out to find the model/version.0 -
Thanks. I will try all this tomorrow morning now.
If I click start and then all programs the Dlink is there. I click on this and it gives me D-Link Airplus Utility and underneath uninstall. If I click the Utility it comes up with missing shortcut - windows searches for AirplusCFG.exe but nothing comes up it keeps on searching.0 -
this is deffo your problem - you've removed the wifi card (as far as the software is concerned) !!
do you have the driver disk for your D-Link card ?? If not, try this to identify your card and download the driver package - save it onto a memory stick and run it on the pc with the missing s/w:-

you could try looking in the Program Files folder for a D-Link folder, and se if the info about which model it is is in there somewhere.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

I recently installed a D Link wireless card but the owner could not get on with the utility so I researched what chip was installed and it turned out to be a Ralink. I went to the Ralink website and downloaded the driver and used the Windows wireless utility instead. As a last resort, take your wireless card out and write down the model number and even better, if you see a chip write down the info from that and post it here. You may need a magnifying glass!0

Ah. One of those things you uninstalled was the wifi driver....0 -
Really not a good idea to randomly uninstall software if you are not 100% sure of it's function. No free lunch, and no free laptop

this page, scroll down a bit for the driver download. As before, save it to a memory stick on your other computer and take it over to the problem one
