My OH purchased a computer game from the US and wasn't sure if it would work on his UK console, but decided to take the risk anyway. It didn't work so I listed it on ebay.
I wanted to list it for sale in the US only but could only see the option to list in UK and US.
So to make sure that somebody from UK wouldn't buy it thinking it would work on their UK console I was very careful to mention clearly 3 times that it was a US game. (Although still had the feeling someone might just use buy it now, then pay straight away without reading the listing)
In the item specifics I put Format: NTSC (US, Canada)
At the top of the auction in normal sized text I stated that it was NTSC for US and Canada.
Also at the top I stated that it would not work on standard UK consoles but would work on US consoles or modified (chipped) consoles.
I did not put it at the bottom of the description, or in small text or in white or grey text.
Anyway item sold to someone in the UK, they paid straight away. I considered checking with them that they realised it was a US format game but decided not to bother since it was clearly mentioned 3 times at the top of the auction and didn't think anyone could be so stupid. I sent the game to them.
Today I have received the following email:
"u never sed they have got a reagon setting of the usa i have a uk xbox they
dont work
and it never sed
get in touch thx
dan"
They have 40 feedback, 97% positive with 1 negative
"NON PAYING BIDDER - BEWARE - GO TO SPECSAVERS COZ YOU CANT READ!!!"
The reason they received the above negative was because he left the following neutral:
"am sorry i dont want it just noticed the p&p after bid"
I wish I had read his feedback before sending the game as it would have prompted me to check with them that they knew what they were buying.
I replied immediately, asking him to look at the auction again, that it was clearly stated 3 times and I quoted the format and from the auction text.
No response from him yet, but I'm just wondering what I should do if he doesn't let it drop? I don't really want neutral or negative feedback because the buyer either can't read, or chooses not to read, auction descriptions before buying items. Although I don't feel that I should have to let him return and refund for the same reasons.

Depends on whether you want to be generous?
1. Offer a refund - your P&P are costs
2. Tell him no and expect a negative feedback and maybe a claim via Paypal."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I suppose I would rather let him return and refund him less p&p and less fees than chance a negative and/or a Paypal claim.
Neutral feedback wouldn't be too bad but since I've not had a neutral or negative for over 12 months I'd rather keep it that way.
If I refund him less p&p and fees then I guess I will not have lost anything - although there is the possibility he may still leave neutral or negative feedback because he will be a few pounds out of pocket.

pennylane99 wrote:is this the same game you were having problems with the seller a week or so ago........
no, that was for a different console and was a us version bought from the uk and does work on uk consoles although i since discovered that the us version is actually a different type of game to the uk version of the game. Seller hasn't replied to a few emails now, asking him to confirm if he would refund my original and return postage. Currently trying to re-sell the game, but thats another story.
edit: where did pennylane99s post, that i quoted from, go?

Obviously a product of our superior education system that is costing us all a fortune.
Perhaps eBay should verify a users ability to read and write basic English before letting them loose on others.
