No "regulatory body", but you can try putting your number on the TPS to stop (or at least reduce) this type of cold call.
Then if you continue to get them you can report the caller to the TPS for them to take action.0 -
we have no privacy anymore :mad:everyone has our phone number even if we are ex-directory and haven't given it out, I have only given my landline number to family members and if a company asks for it and they really really need to beable to contact me ( I'm talking life or death situation here ) then I give them my mobile number, but I still get pestered to death by these jokers UK assist and the dreaded energy grant adviser/ Grants Advisory Council / Energy Grant Advisory Service everytime they call themselves something different but all them energy grant advisers phonecall always are from the same place ( I can't can't call them a company because that insults real companys ) I'd love to get my hands on them, they call at weekends and in the evening , I tell you I'm not going to say where I'd shove that phone of theirs if I got my hands on them but I'm sure you all guess where I'd shove it :eek:0

Hi,
We have been plagued by calls about an "accident" we had and have just denied all knowledge and they have hung up previously.
They have now caught the attention of hubby and like previous posts I have read, seem to suggest we can claim money back out of this "government" pot. Just wondered if anyone else can advise if they have had a positive experience or whether it is a scam that we should steer well clear of. The company are UK Assist and any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks x0 -

If you weren't injured, ignore them completely.
If you were injured, approach a reputable personal injury solicitor.
Whichever way you go, do not deal with someone who cold calls you. There is no government pot, it all comes out of increased premiums for everyone.0 -
Brabbersbabe - I am totally gobsmacked what they said to you. There must be a way to complain about it?0

I've had calls like this on my home phone (just moved there 3 months ago), my parents home and my mobile, its pretty much once a week.
Apparently today I've just had a call on my parent's home from: Richard Jones from UK Assist.
He was calling re my "accident" - apparently he told my dad that he has received a file from Admiral and they need confirmation that I have had or don't want compensation regarding my accident so that they can claim the money on file for profit. They can't do this apparently until I confirm. My dad took his name and number. Apparently his number is 0151 515 0621.
My dad started off saying that I had received loads of calls about this and didnt want anymore and Richard at UK Assist said that insurance brokers must have got hold of the info. Richard has apparently taken me off their automatic dial up system now but said that I can call him back if I want or not if I don't want. He reitterated that he needed me to confirm that I was notified of or received personal compensation "so that Admiral can claim this back as profit if you don't want/ need it".
I had an accident about 2/3 years ago but he was so vague his query could have related to anyone, like the calls I get every darned week. It is exhausting and these people often become quite rude. I feel bad my dad had to deal with this today.
I met someone the other day who'd been involved with this kind of company before. She said they won't take me off their phone lists and my best chance of getting them to do so is to tell them I've never had an accident. I'm doing that going forward & warning my folks to do the same.
Good luck all, lets hope some Court or Ombudsman starts addressing this exhausting situation! Martin, all tips and hints from you also greatly appreciated!

i myself received a call from UK assist and they were very friendly to be frank. they told me everything that had happened from where they received my number and how to claim my money back. i am not one for claiming myself but they told me that the third party insurance company had to put money aside for myself by law. i was a bit skeptical but i went through with it and they regularly called me making sure that i am okay. i received the money 7 weeks after the sign up and i bought my grandson a game console as well as a holiday for me and my husband. now i know they have got some bad press and i did question them on that when they gave me a courtesy call and they told me that they were dealing with the issue. i am not to sure what that means but i believe them anyhow. personally i would give them a 10/10 due to how lovely they were to me. if anyone wants to speak to the member of staff i spoke to i can give you the number they phoned me off. hopefully this help others like me. but the on i dealt with is in Manchester and not Birmingham perhaps they are different companies im not to sure0
