For those asking why PSN is worse, the recent hacking should be enough.
Game companies are like the Film/Music companies believing they are missing out on a significant amount of revenue.
I'm not agreeing with piracy, but at a reduced cost / no cost people will consume things they wouldn't if they had to pay full price - Relating to the game industry, without trade-ins, a lot of people wouldn't buy new games.
EA are the main culprits with the passport and they're probably the worst for the support this passport cost is supposed to subsidise.
I agree with your other points, by pushing prices up even higher will just push more people to not bother buying new releases and waiting for prices to fall or push them towards piracy.
With the xbox using pirated games is quite common and easy. Yes your console will get banned once they find out but with console prices low it doesn't really matter. If you can play several top titles for the cost of a couple of disks your already in profit lol.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
All what you said has nothing to do with second hand games, DVD or CD's being sold, you are talking about copyright.
I was highlighting more how they were being dicks and punishing the legitimate consumer.
I have wondered before, actually, how piracy has influenced publishers' opinions on second hand sales. It certainly does seem like second hand consumers are being punished for the sins of the pirates.
Take an online server. Say a game only sold 3 copies, but its servers were hosting 1million players, that will obviously have a huge impact on the sustainability of the developer.
Anyone who bought a game second hand clearly has a shred of decency, so is being mined for the money that will never be forthcoming from pirates.
But at the same time, the passes DO stop pirates from enjoying the full game. In theory. So they will have to pony up as well, and they are the ones who are causing the real problems.
In fact, I wish I could *censored* the face of everyone who claims they're just playing their 'backups.'0 -
Those using pirated games still win though as they will be playing a new release for less than the cost of a used game if they want to play it online.
The codes are fine but should be for the disk not the user.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
