I pay £24 from an ebay seller, instant reply with code etc

There are cheaper alternatives but that isn't the point. You could buy a PS3 and watch 4 on demand and play games online for no extra cost.

Console hardware margins are slim and prices are reduced at various lifecycle points to remain competitive, therefore 'Value Added Services' such as Xbox Live provide a consistent revenue stream.

Yes, those features are available on PSN without an additional subscription, but the price of the PS3 console has always been higher than the Xbox 360.

A 12 month subscription for less than £30 from eBay is the best way to pay for it.

thats fine but why should i pay more to play online which games companies are now expecting you to do

thing is we pay 7.00 a month (around that) to use xbox live to play games on line but games comapnies expect us to shell out more for the priveidge

    £7 a month?
Im at £2.33 on my last purchase
If you are paying full RRP then you have bigger worries than M$!
    £7 a month is £84 a year
thats more than 2 full RRP xbox live subs

    looking on Amazon
you have about £50 between the lowest price PS3/360
so theres 2 years online gaming covered in the difference
    or one at full RRP

    PS I have a 360 & PS3 before we get into it

Technically not true. Yes you get 1 code to play online if you buy new, which is fine if your the only one playing the game.

In my house 2 of us play and no doubt as the kids get older they will want to play so not only do I have to buy xbox gold for each account (family accounts are now available) but I will also have to pay 800 points for the 2nd account to be able to play online.

Used games mean you will also have to spend 800 points to play online as well as games you will hire. That will effectively kill hiring and the used market for games which are mainly based around the online play. It also means if you want to borrow a game from a friend, maybe to try it you will also have to pay.

I used borrow new games from friends all the time, if I got into the game I would go and buy it. Many of my friends did the same thing. Now though there isn't much point, i'm not going to pay just try out a game I might not buy.

If anything it will just encourage piracy, with consoles so cheap if you can flash it yourself you only have to play 4 or 5 top games and your quids in.

£50 difference for 1 person using that console. If you have kids who want their own accounts (which they will) that £50 will be lost on two xbox live accounts.

    fair enough,I'll give you that
I do wish they would do a 360 live membership to activate one console, rather than one account
as long as you dont play on other folks consoles of course

PS you can get 4 gold memberships for £69.99 or less under the family pack
