  • Yeah. My interest is currently hypothetical until I can find some evidence that there is a manager who can actually time the market.
  • Neptune Japanese manager shorted the market in 2008 and made 130% But ever since he has done below par though he dropped the old short, he is shorting the Yen which is one of the worlds strongest and most flawed currencys

I dont think cash is a good alternative, unfortunately there is no right choice

Ha, some chance. You might be interested in the links below. T.Bailey are the only ones I have seen where you can get some form of comparator with a previous fund i.e. their multi-asset growth fund benchmarked against IMA global sector, and their recent equivalent "growth lite" fund of trackers.

Previous fund with track record 1999 - present here:

And note, cumulative performance over last 5yrs here:
    http://www.trustnet.com/Factsheets/Factsheet.aspx?fundCode=QEFH&univ=U&pagetype=performance

And in the equivalent growthLite fund of trackers below, note the fund codes and fund costs on page 2.

Best comparator I can make at present which is less hypothetical. Plenty to think about regarding e.g. past fund performance, suitability of the active manager for the tracker fund going forwards, and whether the costs associated with the tracker fund are justified.
