Def take the old skirting off & replace with new.
I wish you could of seen us trying to cut the corners for the beading, we just couldn't get it right and nothing seemed logical no matter how we did it, we were having a senior moment and ended up collapsing with laughter.
In the end we had to ask a child to come home and sort us out, and of course they did it straight away:D

Laminate blades def cut downwards.........as a fitter been using them a long time now, so wickes must have sold a bad un! Idea of cutting down is so that they dont mark surface of board and give a clean cut with finished side facing upwards so you can see what you are cutting0 -
thanks for that.
checked with a mate and he confirms what youve said. wickes sold me a dud un.Get some gorm.0 -

Are you saying this tool will cut the required groove in the skirting and the door frames/architraves?
I don't fancy the mess made of the walls when pulling skirting off plus there's a paint sytem to put on the new bare skirting board.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}

Door trimming saws are as they say for door trimming............possible to use on skirting but they only cut in one direction and you would have to be very careful with the depth and sure nothing lurking behind skirting in form of cables etc......sometimes you find things in unexpected places!
Also i would imagine its difficult to finish the cut in corners and a chisel would then be required......IMO removal of skirting far easier, neater, and better.As said earlier, beading always an option.
This is a link to details regarding the door saw:

Also.... if undercutting skirting you have to be careful when you slide laminate under thet you leave enough expansion gap....with skirting off and starting fresh, you can use spacers to ensure this.0 -
i gave the new skirting 2 undercoats and a top coat. (all done outside in the garage).
then stuck it on with no nails.
simple.Get some gorm.0 -
Don't worry to much about which way your jig saw blade cuts, all your cut ends should be covered by beading or skirting board. After you have cut a couple of boards you will know.0
