my friend had laminate fitted and because her skirting was painted white the joiner used white pvc beading ( the sort you get for pvc windows) this costs VERY little from double glazing suppliers and I must say it looks fab! it blends really well with white skirting.
That is a very good idea!0 -
thankyou!!!:D0

If so, is there something you can buy to fit where the top stair is - like a profile trim like in between doorways or something? IYSWIM?
TIA!
P.S - I'm not trying to steal your post, Bindiboo! - Just thought I'd ask a quick Q if no-one minds?
You need a stair nosing you can buy, stair edge profile its called as well. This fits to the nose of the landing and your carpet would then tuck up under it to give a nice finishI have nothing better to do!!!!

ive done the dining room with the trim thingys and it looks a bit messy.
for the living room i ripped out the old skirting and bought new stuff, cheap as chips. painted them white before sticking them on with no nails. looks the dogs dangly bits.
as for the door architraves, lay an off cut of laminate on the floor and cut the frames with a saw, flat on the laminate. dead simple.Get some gorm.0 -
As a fitter i would recommend as others that the skirting is replaced or beading is used. I have all the tools needed and would only recommend them for cutting under doorways etc not the skirting. As previously mentioned with click flooring an expansion gap is required and if sliding the boards under skirting there is no way of knowing that you have this correctly.
beading is not that expensive as someone mentioned! Quickstep beading can be got for as little as £2.82 for 2.4m.0 -
well have steered DH away from his idea and towards replaing the skirting/using beading. thanks to all your help guys, mse'r at its best. DH hubby has been out while I've been at work today and said laminate is now sitting in hall way awaiting his (and mine no doubt) attention starting tomorrow.0

Even a click system needs to be tapped together and you wont be able to do this if you try to slide the boards together and certainly not at one end, you wont be able to get the last run in due to the angle you require for the tongue and groove to go into.0 -

laminate blades cut downwards so no need to turn laminate board around, thats the whole idea of the blade......watch new blades in the first instance though as they can give quite a 'kick' until worn in a bit0
