  • Well she's not planning on going to Court as her nerves/anxiety wouldnt cope with that, so she's planning on just pleading guilty via post (which it gives you the option to do) so I dont know what will happen with that!

Thanks for the advice tho people :)

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago,by the time I went to the local court I was back paying for the license so what happened to me was before you go into the court you meet the TVL debt collector, who gives you the oppertunity to pay there & then what you owe plus court fees,in my case it was only court fees of £35.
When I received my summons, the name on the papers was completely wrong but that doesn't stop them persuing it,The TVL debt collectors work on commision & will lie thru their teeth when they call.

thats why they got you to agree outside of court, it would have been thrown out in the first 30 seconds if the person named on the summons was not you.

The was at least four other people in the queue waiting to see the TVL debt collector as well,One girl even remarked that's the kiddies Christmas present money gone when she returned from the cashpoint after getting the money.
When I got the summons, I called them to tell them the name was wrong & they said "We'll just change it on the docket & send you a new one".

The tv licence court representitive guy is just there to lie to you and try and get you to cough up before the court throw it out, i know of somebody who got caught like this, the representitive in the court even went so far as to tell him what channels he was watching, despite the fact that detector van evidence has never been used in a prosecution and they had no idea what he was watching they convinced him differently and scared him into paying up on the spot, if your girlfriend isnt even prepared to stand up for herself and her rights in court then there is no point in continuing this thread, they win, you loose, pay up and take your medicine! but as mentioned previously paperwork is only valid in a court if your personal details are correct, the judges would have laughed and thrown it out if it had a different name on it, and why did you attend anyway if it had somebody elses name on it? did you get an identity crisis thing that particular morning and think you were someone else?

    Full sympathies with the OP.

This however serves as a case in point about why under no circumstances should you let the BBC (TVL is a trademark of the BBC) into your house, regardless of whether you require a television licence or not.

They have no legal right to enter private property, so why do people continue to let them in?

Neither are people under any legal obligation to tell them anything, so why do people continue to self-incriminate themselves?

The correct action is to simply shut the door.

But it is good to read of those who wish to dodge occasionally being banged to rights!
  • I don't pay the TV license, don't see why I should and why anyone should. It's the biggest con going. Write to them and revoke access to your property, when they turn up sue them for trespass.

They have NO LEGAL right to enter your home or even step foot past your wall / garden.

It's impossible for them to tell what you're watching, for all they know it could be catchup TV and you don't even need to pay the tax for it.

It seems you have a strange view of democracy.

I'm very against income tax. Hang on this VAT is rubbish also. It's not a con. It's a way of raising revenue and it could be done a different way but your anarchistic tendencies won't help resolve the position.
