Care to name the brand, just in case someone else spots this "bargain"?
It was asda's own. they prepack their counter meat in £3.50 or £6 packs.
I bought a £3.50 pack last week that was really nice. This new pack was more cheaper looking than the good one..........and ended up tasting so too.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

As it was Asda own, and if you still have the receipt, I assume you could apply the Asda refund policy, worth a try next time you are in & have time

The ham didn't mention the usual refund thing on it.
I've waded through it anyway - and now I am hamless (hamstrung).
No longer hamfisted.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

Hi Guys and gals I have a bit of a problem and where's the first place I turn to , yes you've guessed it here.
I bought a 2kg gammon from the butchers, and he assured me it would not need soaking overnight .So like a good grandma I stuck it into my SC at 10.00 this morning on low and cooked it .I have just returned from my DD's after sunday night dinner and thought I would give it a skewer to see if it was done, and it's almost done .I thought I'll just slice a small piece off to taste, and it is so salty it is almost unedible .HELP what do I do to get rid of the salt do I
A. soak it over night in cold water, and then finish it off in the oven tommorrow ? or
B. bin it, and rush to Mr T's and buy another in the morning .It is for sandwiches on Xmas day so I could cook another one tommorrow but this one cost me £8.00
Any helpful ideas, I am beginning to panic a bit:eek:  :eek:0 -
apple juice soak it in apple juice and will bring the saltiness out. A few cloves in the ham too together with the apple juice will give it a nice spicey flavour. Taffy0

If I get some tomorrow, and soak it all day woiuld that do it do you think0

Don't know if it would work Jackie but what if you took it out of the slow cooker and into an ordinary pan and boil a few potatoes with it apparently they absorb the salt, second thoughts maybe it won't.
Hope you get fixed though.I have a huge ham in a pan at the moment and i didn't soak it either:eek::eek::eek:Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

Before I cook my gammon anyway ie boil, slow cook or bake I put it in a pan of cold water and bring it to the boil to take away the saltyness. As it is not cooked quite yet you could give this a go. I have boiled my gammon in coke this year (not diet) and it tastes really good, no hint of saltyness. My friend collected the gammons from the butchers and he said soaking was not neccessary but any time I have not brought it to the boil in cold water have had the same problem as you. I would give any of the suggestions above a go as you have nothing to lose and you might be able to salvage it. If it doesn't work you can always pick one up tomorrow I know its a bit of a waste and I would be gutted but you have only done as your butcher suggested. at least you tasted it before serving it to your guest.0

I'd soak it in cold water tonight then give it a quick boil tommorrow.
Hope it turns out ok Jackie.0 -
Well chums I have soaked it overnight, and have just taken a chance and popped it in the oven to finish it off .Hopefully by breakfast time I can give it a quick taste and see if it's o.k. If not then I have time to nip to Mr T's and buy another one .Fingers crossed anyway
Cheers0
