Am I turning old granny-ish?

Oh, this thread has entertained. I don't have a car but if I did I would have a blankie. I love blankets and rugs. I often have one draped over me when I'm loafing on the sofa reading, even in summer.
If dandy-candy is heading for granniedom then I am there already and have been for a while. I haven't taken to saving bits of string and brown paper in case they come in handy but I'm just a whisker away, I know, I can feel it.
Someone once joked that you can tell a middle-aged person without having to see them. They always groan or sigh when sitting down or getting up from a chair. I know from experience that this is true as I caught myself doing it. I'm only 57 but am finding it hard to straighten up from a prolonged crouch without support now. It's probably a downhill slide from here on in and I really couldn't care less..0 -
I have to say I'm quite resistant to the idea of wrapping myself up in a blanket while driving. Surely you need to have your arms and legs free, so as not to get yourself tangled up at a critical moment when reaching for the controls? I feel the same way about driving in huge coats with floppy sleeves btw.
This is a good point - I once hired a car in Portugal and once out on the motorway I suddenly panicked when I couldn't find the clutch and brake pedal with my foot, and when I looked down they had completely disappeared! I was about to do an emergency stop with the handbrake when I realised that a mat made of the same material as the carpet had gradually got pushed forward over the pedals by my left foot!'Never keep up with Joneses. great idea! i have taken my hot water bottle in the car before to keep warm while waiting for the heater to warm up. i also take along an extra long cardigan to use as a blanket, its freezing in there! I got a hot choc that warmed me up well!0

I get cold really easily and always have done. There are a lot of people out there who don't seem to feel the cold-lucky them I say! Years ago at school I remember one girl in my class who would always walk into classrooms exclaiming "its so hot in here" and fling open the windows. Meanwhile I'd be surrepetitiously turning up the nearest radiator and huddling up next to it.
My toes always get cold so I wear bed socks and fleece primark PJs. I have an extra fleece blanket underneath my bedsheets and always have a fleece/microfibre blanket on hand whilst watching tv. Some people are just more susceptible to cold, regardless of age and its a constant battle to keep warm.

Hi,
I had to laugh at this thread and add my bit as I thought I was the only one who probably did this.
I regularly sit watching tv with a fleece around me because I think if I can manage with that, then there is no point in wasting money having the heating on. (However, when kids are there, the heating is always on). That is a matter of course and has been like that for ages in my house.
Hence gas dd now at £7 per month
However, bed time. I can definitely say I must be an old granny but I don't mind one bit.
I usually wear nightie or pjs, long 3/4 length cardy, socks and if its very cold, the hot water bottle goes in as well. Then ......... on top of the 13 tog duvet is a double sleeping bag, the bed throw and to top it off, my dressing gown gets slung on top :rotfl:
Im 45! omg, I can't believe I admitted to being grannyish but I hate being cold.

well as a Granny of 7 I too have a 'blankey' which I knitted myself and I put over my legs in the evening.I found that by having a hot water bottle as well when I go to bed it means I sleep a lot more soundly I have osteoarthritis and lymphodema and if my joints get cold I seize up and start to creak like an un-oiled gate :)I am frugal with most things but there is no way I can be cold as I would only end up in the hospital ( I also have an immune deficiancy from my chemo)So I care not a jot what i look like as long as I am warm and cosy.I knitted a cover for my hot water bottle out of scraps of wool and its lovely and keeps it warm almost all night (and me as well.I also take it with me when I meet the boys from school as its not good to sit with the engine running just to warm the car up waste of fuel and messes up the environment
P.S. all of my grandsons also have a Granny Blankey knitted by me and they all use them when watching t.v. or when they are on the computer games. Each one has one in their favourite football clubs colours and my eldest grandson who is 21 still has his West Ham one that I knitted him when he was 10.Last year I knitted a 'betty boop' one for his girlfriend Chloe and she was thrilled to bits with it0 -

But I do have a couple of fleece blankets in the car for passengers to use, and to wrap myself in if I'm sitting waiting for a while for a child to come out of some activity. (I don't run the engine while parked up, no, it's not very kind to the environment not to mention wasting petrol.) The rest of the time though I just wear enough clothes not to need a blanket while the heater gets going. I find if I put the heaters on to defrost the windscreens etc, by the time I've scraped the car fully down the inside is positively balmy compared to the outside, lol!
I don't like to drive in my coat, even my very workman like one.
I feel restricted in it, and also i like to have something to put on when i get out of the car, so i get to appreciate the benefit of having a coat.
But a blanket around middle and lap would be no different to driving ina straight skirt imo. Around arms and up to chin i can see being awkward, but aroudn the middle, not.0 -
I'm not surprised, alison, it was an appalling lack of manners, and goes totally against the accepted tone of this forum. However, if the poster is actually as her board name implies, then it's a case of 'speaking' as she thinks - not something she can necessarily help. Try not to let it get to you, especially as everyone else sympathises or empathises.
Thank you. xx
My rattle only lasted long enough to post the reply.
I used to be terribly resilient to cold but no longer, I find the damper autumn worse for me than the sharp cold we have now.
As for the car, I assumed those that are really wrapping in a blanket are either parked or passengers. I would have thought a fleece blanket folded in quarters sat on a lap would be no problems for a driver. No worse than long skirts.
I am lucky, my car seat is heated.
Lostinrates - SNAP!Put the kettle on.

Can i just err on the side of caution and ask drivers to beware of using blankets that could trail and get tangled in the foot peddles of the car or any other internal car parts. I do like the idea of taking a hot water bottle with me on cold days.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

i'm 18 and have a blanket in my boyfriends car and my boyfriend who's 21 has a blanket he puts over his legs (p.s the blanket is not a long blanket and does not trail) because the heating takes a couple of minutes to start0
