  • Another blanket fan here - I'm very rarely in a car and I must say I'd never thought of taking one on public transport, though the idea does appeal!:rotfl::rotfl:But a hottie bottle and a blanket, together with cosy socks and several fleeces, are definitely the order of the day when sitting watching TV or reading. Saves putting the heating on more than I can help (sympathy for the cats and, um, the hamster :o does make me weaken more than I otherwise might ... or at least that's my excuse!).

  • 29- AND- I have one that plugs into my ciggy lighter like a heated blanket. My Hubby bought it for me when I was 25 and owned a convertable. I HATE being cold and don't mind if my rep is ruined when I keep warm. There are worse things in life (like being cold in fact! )
I don't often return to a thread I've posted on so.... if you want to ask me about anything I've written please pm me- I don't bite.

I like the idea of taking a blanket to the cinema (not that I go v often :() I actually find I'm more in need of a blanket in summer sometimes, due to cinemas/shops/DH having the air con full blast! I often wear a large pashmina style scarf in summer as it will fold up and go in my handbag but can be used as a blanket when the a/c is blowing!

Slightly OT, but I've been joking at work for a while that I'm going to start bringing my pet cat in to the office with me to sit on my lap and keep me warm. It's not going to happen, obviously, but I wonder if I could get away with a blanket?

snowleopard - I know what you mean about sympathy for the pets - my cat's a thin-coated oriental type, and there's few things more pathetic than watching him sitting shivering on the sofa. :( I usually give in and turn the heating on / up at that point, when usually I'd just wrap myself up more tightly in my blanket.
Back after a very long break!

My hubby got me one of those slanket things for Christmas. We don't have a car but I regularly sit shivvering on the sofa when he is stripping off and sweating buckets. So no, I don't think having a blanket in the car is a bad thing. I'll definitely be doing it when I eventually choose to have a car!

I keep several blankets in my little C3 (tartan & crochet, before you ask) more in case of stranding, as about 50% of my driving is on rural roads, than for day-to-day use, as it's quite quick to heat up. However my passengers regularly wrap themselves up to the hairline in them, even with the heater on. Mind you, I also keep a couple of sacks in the boot in case of being stuck in mud or snow, and a couple of plastic sacks in case of manure! (The equestrian types often leave sacks outside their gates, which are free to take away as long as you replace the sack.) And there are quilts on the sofas, to wrap around us when watching TV.

I'm in the possible range for Grannydom at 53, but haven't been thus honoured so far; I still have several offspring living at home & they all use the blankets & quilts too, even the 16 y.o. Sadly, though, our 3 cats are under the impression that all quilts & blankets belong to them - after all, they "helped" make them.

  • I'm 40 and quite often have a blanket over me when I'm sitting reading (and no, I don't live in a doorway...). When I was a lad we had an old horse blanket in the back of our Mini Traveller and it was indispensable for keeping warm on the back seat.

Mind you I've been a grandad since my teens, I started smoking a pipe and wearing a tweed jacket when I was 15, and have always worn slippers and a dressing gown at home. I consider it a badge of pride when my fiancee calls me 'grandad' as the old ways are often the best!

Well I am a granny. Have been one for nearly five months now.I'm sitting here with a throw over my knees even though the heating is on.The throw is an old one-it's actually a "quillow" a throw that folds up into a cushion. I made it years ago when DD was going on a school skiing trip to Austria by coach. She found it very useful as the coach did get a bit chilly at times.

We have another on the back seat of the car plus a couple of blankets.I find that if I get cold these days it takes me ages to warm up and then I get sleepy.

I have to say I'm quite resistant to the idea of wrapping myself up in a blanket while driving. Surely you need to have your arms and legs free, so as not to get yourself tangled up at a critical moment when reaching for the controls? I feel the same way about driving in huge coats with floppy sleeves btw.

But I do have a couple of fleece blankets in the car for passengers to use, and to wrap myself in if I'm sitting waiting for a while for a child to come out of some activity. (I don't run the engine while parked up, no, it's not very kind to the environment not to mention wasting petrol.) The rest of the time though I just wear enough clothes not to need a blanket while the heater gets going. I find if I put the heaters on to defrost the windscreens etc, by the time I've scraped the car fully down the inside is positively balmy compared to the outside, lol!

  • We live near a lovely little italian restaurant that has most of the tables outside under a canopy. They have patio heaters and provide a fleecy rug for each diner to cover their legs. They have lovely little tea light candles on the tables.

It is always full to bursting as its a bit quirky and romantic eating gorgeous food outside snuggled under a blanket.
