Am I turning old granny-ish?

Apologies first to any old grannies!
I'm in my late 30's and in the cold weather I have got into the habit of keeping a rug in the car. When I do the morning school run (7.30 am) I jump into the car and put the blanket on my lap to keep me cosy and warm.
When I went out with DH in the car and put it on, and he gave me such a funny look - I didn't care because I was cold! But now whenever I pull it out he gives me that same pitying look
I had a friend up the other week and she saw my rug in the car and when I told her about my using it she was in hysterics and said I was like an old granny!
Is it really that bad? I didn't mind it before but now when I sit alongside cars in the traffic i'm starting to feel paranoid if I have it over my legs....

Funny you should say that - I have started to crochet squares for a blanket to go in the car. (I am mid 40s). This is after I have made two for when we sit watching the telly in the evening.Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

I use a red tartan blanket in my bf car as the heater takes so long to blow warm air. And I don't have it over my legs either - I am snuggled under it up to my neck!
I am also thinking of taking it to the cinema as they are so ridiculously cold these days!
btw I turned 40 a couple of months ago.Learning to live with an IVA - no overdraft - no credit cards - no safety net - very very scary _pale_ All advice gratefully received! :A0 -
I dunno, but i am, 33...i think, not sure atm, and i am going to start doing this, what a super idea! I keep warm things on the cR for a break down, it never occured to me that i could be more comfortable while driving too!0

Oh, now that i have done! It makes a lot sense imo in the cinema.0 -
I am 32, and a few months ago i bough some cheap fleecy blankets from primark for about £3 and i always keep one of them in the car to wrap up in when i do the schoo run!
It takes too long for the hot air from the heaters to kick in!
I also have one for when i am laying on the sofa all snuggled up with my cat, watching TV and drinking tea!!0 -
If it helps I'm 27 and I've been taking my fleece blanket on train & car journeys with me for years. Seems like a good idea to me - nothing to be ashamed ofIn a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!0

I use a fleece blanket (when I remember) in the car as make lots of short journeys like school run and taking boys to activities etc (all about 2/3 miles) and boys have a fleece each in the car which thye love. Heater takes ages to work and I worry I drain the battery especially with lights, wipers etc in this weather.
I am 44 and don't feel a granny and to be honest I couldn't care a less what others think if I'm warm! I also wear a pair of driving gloves I've had forever even though I look a bit daft in them, my poor hands are so chapped as it is.0 -
Sounds like a bit of a faff to be fiddling around with a blanket, I couldn't be bothered myself.
I do think older people seem very resistant to the idea of being cold or wet for a bit and I don't really understand it. I see people who are only walking between building and car wrapped up in big coats and scarves, or the slightest bit of drizzle and no-one can go outside without an umbrella. What's wrong with a bit of water or cold air, you soon dry or warm up again.0 -
A blanket is nothing! Make a hot water bottle too and pop it on your lap. Highly recommended:D and really lovely if you have to sit in the stationary car for any length of time at the other end of the journey. It saves having to run the engine to keep warm while you wait.
As long as your ability to drive properly and operate all the controls safely isn't compromised, you are the one who is benefiting from all this.
