  • i will pay when I know what I'm paying for, but they won't tell me. They don't answer emails. I am paying my monthly rental although I have no service, so I'm nt the only one breaking the contract

Well, this is good position if you don't care about your credit history and debt collectors knocking on your door.
If they report missed payments and you then prove them wrong it will take time and lots of efforts to have the credit file(s) corrected.

In many countries data roaming costs £8/Mb, so your £1900 is pretty reasonable 230Mb, not something extraordinary.

    you are mistaken
its you that hasnt paid the bill
its you that has no idea what data you did or didnt use(by your own admission)
would you provide service if someone owed you nearly £2k?
Orange may not even have the data breakdown yet.
had you come on and said you had turned off data,or controlled app access
    thats different
however you most likely have used the data
its the same ofr anyone with an outstanding bill with Orange
they cut service pending payment but will pass it on to debt collecters if left too long.

You would be surprised just what insignificant apps download data.

    Tell me about it... :)

I went for an afternoon nap yesterday and left the radio on as it helps me drop off to sleep. My mobile was on the bedside table next to it and every few minutes I could hear (via the radio) the familiar Morse code like sound of it chatting away with the network. I've been wondering why my phone's battery life is so poor.

additionally the OP could look at the data counter on their phone and check this with the online bill. No need to wait.

You can't be using that much, if you can hear that interference, you're on 2G ;)

But in all seriousness, phones poll the network all the time, it doesn't mean you're using data.

OP, a good way to ensure no data roaming outside the UK would be to install an app killer, there are a wide variety available on the android market, just remember to use it whenever you leave the UK. ;)

This is a bad advice. Unless you uninstall the apps, many will be alive and running very soon afterer 'killing'.
The only way is to disable data connection and/or data roaming.

Yes, 2G and 3G data interference does sound different via the radio. Whichever it is, it still uses battery power.

This was happening every few minutes. It varies, but as far as I know networks require a phone to check in every twenty minutes or so.
