orange massive overcharge

And most GPS systems in phones are in fact AGPS. The A meaning assisted, and that assistance is in the form of downloading a little data.0

Orange are, more than likely, waiting for the billing info to come through.
The usage info is sent by the roaming network within 24 to 48 hours, but that's just the raw total usage, not detailed. The billing info, which is the full usage info comes later. Some overseas network can take months to send it through, which is why they can't supply it to you yet.0 -
thank you to everybody for your replies - very interesting about Facebook etc - and also how long it might take for them to get the data. I think I'll just sit tight now and wait for them to contact me! The only strange thing is that I travel outside UK (Europe and the Middle East) on a regular basis, and not once over the last four years since I've been receiving emails etc on the mobile have I ever exceeded my allowed usage - so the mystery is, what went wrong this time! I'm using HTC Desire0

but what do you do to prevent it?
all it takes is an app with data permissions and off it goes0 -
oh I see. I didn't know that, but I still wonder why it's never happened before - so what can I do to prevent it?0

What 'allowed usage'? IMO, the mystery is that you have not been charged before. The only strange thing is that I travel outside UK (Europe and the Middle East) on a regular basis, and not once over the last four years since I've been receiving emails etc on the mobile have I ever exceeded my allowed usage - so the mystery is, what went wrong this time!
BTW, you keep ignoring the question where you have been this time. It does make some difference.
How to prevent? Switch off both mobile data and data roaming in settings.
Also, "sitting tight now and waiting for them to contact" after cancelling the DD is very likely to result in trashed credit file(s).0 -

Don't hold me to this BUT if roaming charges are under 100kb, then there is no charge
Naturally over a time, the device features maybe used more and hence on this trip you have used more than usual?0 -

all it takes is a change in permissions or a new app, then the data use rises
Im atounded people are still not aware of this.
its been on TV,radio, newspapers etc but still folks seem to have no clue of the potential costs0 -
As for your question, get a Payg phone and dont do anything regarding your phone supplier, you have asked for proof, I guarantee they will get back to you if you do nothing. Then you can inform them you will do nothing more until they send you the evidence you require, of which they will jump through hoops to ensure you have it.
Ignore it and they'll get back in touch as they add default markers on the OP's credit file and possible extra charges for late payment. They'll may also cut the line off and persue the OP for the outstanding line rental, and even possibly selling it to debt collectors. If you ignore them an stop payment then you are the one at default by breaking the contract.
By all means tell Orange you are unwilling to pay them the total amount until the data use is documented, or pay some of it and but say it's under duress, but ignoring them is not the answer, it will not go away if you do nothing, it will get worse.0 -
