Is there a limited timeframe for performing a chargeback on a transaction?

Over the past year I've been just paying off my minimum balance each month, recently I've looks at the transactions on my statements for the past year and I've noticed quite a few transactions that I didn't make.

So I was wondering if there is a set limit on how far you can chargeback? Anyone know? I have a mastercard btw if that's any help.

Would I be better contacting them via phone about the purchases I didn't make or should I write them a letter?

Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated

I've got a feeling there's a 180 day limit, though if someone knows better I'm happy to be proved wrong!

"Quite a few" ? Not wanting to preach, but statements should really be checked every month, especially for those of us in debt who can't afford additional unauthorised expenditure, even though it can normally be reclaimable. Anyway, I agree with PBA, I also have a feeling it's 180 days to dispute, depending on the bank, so get the letters written asap - keep a copy and send via Rec Del so there's a paper trail. Chase by phone in a couple of days.

Just found another thread where someone said
The 6 month period for chargeback’s does not apply to recurring transactions.

You have every right to preach, very irresponsible on my behalf for not checking every transaction each month (It's not something I'll let happen again, that's for sure!)

I think there is 4 or 5 transactions I didn't make, all internet purchases. It wasn't for a lot of money but that's not the point.

I've been doing some research on chargebacks and this post in particular has me interested
    GordonH

My company is a credit card merchant.

According to our merchant account providers if there is no signature there is no transaction so any customer not present transaction can be charged back for any reason.

The issue is whether the individual card issuer is willing to do it.

Simply there not being a signature is enough.

We get customers who use our services for years paying monthly and then charge back the whole lot.

The 6 month period for chargeback’s does not apply to recurring transactions.

This post has me wondering if internet transactions can be charged back after the 6 month period, or would that just apply to recurring charges?

Sorry to hijack this thread but my case is relevant.

I bought some car parts 2 months back and have been waiting for a surcharge to be returned. Several phone calls and weeks later and I still don't have my money. I'm contemplating a charge back, is this viable?

    Many thanks

It is possible, yes. However, the card company will probably advise you to exhaust all possible routes to getting a refund first. Once you have done that and if you still have no joy, they will send out a form and you will get your money back about a month or two later.

    How about this one?

Booked a holiday In October 2006 for Sept 2007. Paid £480 deposit but due to unforeseen circumstances we may not be able to go. I have enquired about cancelling but we would set to lose our £480 deposit. I have written to the manager who phoned me in reply and stated we would lose it.

Is that a charge back option?

Unless your credit card also has travel insurance (not many do) then this would not be covered as the agent has fulfilled their side of the contract. Even if it did have travel insurance it would not be a chargeback but a claim on the insurance. Did you also purchase insurance with the holiday?

Now, if the travel company went bust and you could not go then you could claim against the credit card company.
