Anyone else had a bit of a nightmare cancelling Equifax subscription?

Options
I wondered what my report said & when i noticed that Quidco were offering cashback to view the report & it was free for a month, i thought brilliant - so signed up.

Viewed the report yesterday & went to cancel today.

Could i understand the woman on the phone? You must be joking!!

I'm from England, i live in England, i'm English & i speak English with an English accent. Therefore i would like to speak to someone who sounds something like an English person. American or Australian would do as well, i'm not choosy. Hell, even Scottish or Irish & not to discount the Welsh either.

I got none of these. Someone from the other side of the world. I couldn't understand a damn word this woman said & the amount of times i had to get her to repeat was unreal.
Then she offered me something. I know she did because i heard the word "offer", but then there was a lot of words after this, or perhaps it was just 1 long word that took about 1 minute to say, who knows. All i know is i don't know what she was saying.

Why? Why have someone who is so difficult to understand operating the line for English speaking people??

Is this a sole case or is this the way Equifax operate? My gf wants to view her report but i can tell now this will instantly put her off. If i'd have known it'd have put me off too - i can't be bothered spending an age trying to understand someone when the one on the other end of the line should be easy to understand.

Rant over.

raise a ticket via their support and they will do it for you, worked everytime for me
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Thanks chanz. It took me a while to try and find out how to cancel. In the end i just called the number on the main page & left it at that.

I didn't know you could cancel without calling.

& you must've hit it lucky yellow, as the woman i spoke to was barely understandable. I was fishing for words i could pick out to try and make sense of what she was saying.
  • I had the free trial from them to and called up to cancel, I could barely understand her and it felt like she was screaming down the phone because my ears hurt everytime she spoke.

I canceled mine fine though but they insisted on giving me a year of there credit-alert thing for free

    Same with me.

I was trying to interrupt her to save her wasting her time, but she was like a robot - programmed to carry out a function & will carry it out regardless.
So i had no choice but to sit & wait until the noise stopped, at which point i could finally say no thanks.

She said something else, but i didn't understand it. At every pause i just kept saying i want to cancel. I'm sure this didn't answer everything she was telling or asking, but i really couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to work out what she was saying.

I got a confirmation email of my cancellation, so that'll do me.

If she does, tell her to ring 01274 759 759 (you may need to ask for customer services) and she should get through to an (native) english speaker. They'll still try to convince you not to cancel, tempt you with offers but stay firm and it's easy money :)

    Thanks for that.

I just took a closer look at Quidcos T&Cs. It states anyone abusing the system wont get paid out.

I imagine joining up to view the report only to cancel the following day would be called "absuing". Guess there's no money for me then.

I wouldn't worry, I imagine many people have played the system like this and got the payout. I did similar under topcashback but left cancellation for a week or 2
  • I took out the free trial in 2010. Actually paid for some months before cancelling in January 2011. Got my bank statement and I've been charged £2.99 this month for something called Equifax Lite. I never authorised them to take this.

Problem being, because it's a visa debit card payment rather than a direct debit, I don't think that my bank can actually stop the payments.

I have emailed them on their website - did it on Saturday but received no reply yet. Maybe it's because I put it down that I'd been a victim of fraud.

To whoever gave the Bradford telephone number - many thanks. I'll give that a ring tomorrow. I hate these companies where the only chance of contacting them is via an 0844 number.

The advisor no doubt has a script to follow and if they do not stick to it and they are call monitored they would be marked down.
